What are you thinking about? Part VIII

You made sense. With all the passwords, pin numbers and more needed to be stored in your brain, the phone number takes the back burner. Its a good feeling to know that I am not alone. Anyone else, not have their phone number memorized?

I am caught in between. I have me landline memorized because it has come down in the family since my childhood and I used to have to call my folks when I was out somewhere. I do not have current cell number memorized. I use it mostly to call out and also have not tried to keep the same number as I have changed providers over the years for that reason. It has always just seemed easier to get a new number rather than port.

I give out my # often enough (especially while job hunting) that I have it memorized. What I don't have memorized is everyone else's numbers because they're all on speed dial.

That makes sense. I went through the same thing with SS number — not having it memorized until I went through job hunting. I know some are going to have trouble believing this but I worked at one place (as a bookkeeper) for just over 33 years. Then when I was put on early retirement went to looking for work to supplement that and needed to use it on applications.

Now, that I think about it, I do have my childhood landline memorized. Dunno, if its still active, since Mom now has a cell phone.

Jane and a few others, you probably remember when our phone numbers included letters in the prefix instead of all numerals. :)

I have never gotten spam text oddly enough. I have gotten spam VOICE calls though... and one particular one is calling me every day now (I suspect it's election push calling- believe they're exempt from the do not call list as I know I put my cell number on there.

As for recycling numbers- that's always happened regardless... that's why some areas ended up splitting in area codes. The Philadelphia area did that many years ago (I think in the early 1990s). I've gotten spam messages and wrong numbers too on my VRS number(s) too- both VP and VRS.

I remember! While my family did not have that, both grandparents did and to this day I still remember their prefix (mostly because both paternal grandmother and maternal grandparents lived in the same town lol) but damned if I can remember the rest of the number other than the area code...

Am another who can remember the childhood number but no other numbers of my own once I moved out. At least I have my current cell number memorized and 1 VRS # too lol.

I'm not going to get many bikes sold if I don't feel wanted. If someone wants to see me get a lot of bikes sold, they better make me feel wanted!!!

You realize that attitude is a big part of your problem?

If somebody does commit to you, day to day life would be like suffering emotional blackmail from a four year old.

Since you did your bachelors in the field of psychology, you should actually be comPletely cognizant of how inappropriate that is.

Correct--political calls are exempt from the list.

No one enjoys a threat or extortion. That's not good business.

What I remember was not a PREfix but and A or B and the end of the number. 1234A or 1234B.

Sounds like "Doctor, heal thyself". Seems the ones who should know how to heal oneself are the least likely to do it. :(

Hmm, maybe mine was PA65000 :giggle:
(not likely since I lived in GA at the time)

Is it my age or me growing up in Germany... I do not recall letters in phone numbers, how did that work and when was it?

Yup I do ! We had a 2 party phone too. Dad couldn't call home b /c the line was always busy with 3 girls so he had a phone put just for us to use.

Something like PA65000 (which is a song), would be 726-5000. The two letters correspond with the letters on the phone's keypad.

What I am talking about is from the US back in the 1940's and somewhat into the 1950's. It was before we had dial phones. You gave an operator the number you were calling and they connected the two.
