What are you thinking about? Part VIII

I'm wondering if my hearing aids will make it hard for me to find a job. I have only a mild hearing loss, but some might see the aids and think otherwise.
Most people won't even see them.

I agree, most don't even notice them. I've always let a potential employer know up front that I'm deaf. It's too hard to start a new job and then say "oh, by the way, I wear HAs and need accommodations." That is not the way to go. Put everything out there, which I've done, and if they don't want to hire you, they're not worth working for in the first place.

I didn't have to travel to do it but went through a similar task in 1989.

I had just closed on the 2 bedroom house that I still live in when a week and one day later my mom died. So . . . in that week and one day I went from NO houses to TWO houses!

She had moved in with one of her sisters and one of her brothers in the old family home a few years before (my father was already deceased) and she had been the last one left there. That home had grown from the 3 rooms it was when my grandparents moved it to that lot in 1896 to 9 rooms as they had 7 kids and my aunt had replaced the back porches in such a way as to be that 9th room!

Thinking that my road trip is complete and success. 4905 miles road trip in 2 weeks to Michigan and back. Had to sort through my late grandparent's things and bring some home. Tomorrow and this weekend will unload the suv and sort through the things. I have several carousel slide photos from the 1960-70's era... talk about family memories. I have in possession of about 7 ft tall grandfather's clock I brought home from Michigan.

Welcome back!

That's a lot of miles.

TCS had to make a similar road trip from SC to MI last summer when his mom died. His mom was a hoarder, so there was lots of sorting to do. TCS also had to conduct his mom's funeral.

Wow, that clock will be a real family treasure for your home. :)

Tia, I also have a audiologically mild level and also possibly CAPD- an employer in the States isn't allowed to ask about HA's or "deafness" and you do not have to say anything. I personally do not say until after <preferably written> job offer. The only excepetion would be on -your- end IF you wanted/needed accommodation in the interview or pre-employment process, such as interpreter etc. I also happen to have learning disabilities. It's true that I do not yet wear HA's <hub had to get new ones this year and his level is moderate-severe> but for me, I wouldn't worry about people seeing HA's - average hearing person isn't looking at your ears.

I'm thinking about taking my youngest <dog> who had knee surgery some months ago, to a Barnhunt seminar tomorrow! She is just now physically getting back into more serious or competitive dog sports.

What is CAPD? I also have ADD and anxiety issues and LD with math. But I don't intend for looking for a job where math is involved.

What kind of animals do the dog hunt? My dog Marty loves to hunt for chipmunks , I think if I let him off his leash he would had killed a few by now.

I was diagnosed specifically with math LD in college after i kept failing remedial college math. I didn't learn to tell time or count money til high school. I likely have other LD's that were never diagnosed. One of them I think is CAPD - Central Auditory Processing Disorder, also sometimes just called APD <just no 'C">. Sometimes categorized as another LD and sometimes not - refers to problems making sense of auditory information -in the brain - so not a physical/structural "ear issue" but as how the brain processes what is heard. I have symptoms of it such as spoke very late - parents thought I was deaf. I was in Special Ed in the late 70's/80's for speech and language but people missed the learning disability. I have other issues with multiple and oral instructions and other things that are some of the symptoms of CAPD. CAPD manifests differently in different people as there are different subtypes of it.

While I never look for a job actually involving math - because basic math is so often part of everyday life anyway and people tend to have a certain expectation that someone of my age and educational background *should* be able to do "such-and-such" math-related, I still always tell after I'm hired - and also because of what I described above. Also I make mistakes that are indicative of LD but people who aren't familiar with LD aren't expecting and get pissed when it happens so if I tell them beforehand - they can't say - "You didn't explain".

Hi WDYS! :) It's a controlled, rat-safe environment where the rats -which are what the dogs "hunt" - are in opaque, heavy-duty tubes hidden in and around bales of hay, usually in a barn or simulated barn environment. The activity is for all breeds and mixes but stems from Earthdog trials for Terriers, which were of course specifically bred to "go to ground" and kill small mammals. The rats in barnhunt are domestic rats as family pets and the dogs never physically touch them. The odg has so many minutes to find the rat and complete a set of exercises <"tunnel" through hay etc>. At the differnet levels of competition that search gets more complicated and may involve as many as 8 rats, or the handler doesn't know -how- many rats there are. Regardless of level, handler never knows where therats are and relays on dog to alert to rats, so a lot of this is being in partnership with your dog and learning how to tell taht your dog has a live rat as opposed to the-smell- of a rat. This is a link to a Barnhunt video with a Rottie:

I know there is audio but I was focusing on the visuals so didn't look for captions - in the video though I think she does tell Rottie Jade to "tunnel" and may say other things

I am pretty sure Marty is part terrier b/c he loves to hunt for rodents of all kinds and want to dig the ground up to get them. He would love to go on his hunt ! I let him sniff around the yard and hunt while he on his leash so he can feel like he doing some hunting .

Where did I say that?

If it's the word "deaf" that you are picking on, don't. Anyone with any degree of loss and wears HAs or CIs (that you were concerned about being visible) shouldn't worry about being upfront about it at a job interview.

Some nasty mean bird robbed the sparrow nest on my deck and killed her babies . :( The poor sparrows was trying to get it home back but the nasty bird is very aggressive. I think is a Starlet and some sparrows are under protection so I left them alone but the Starlet is not I think it an invasive species .

You didn't say that, I was asking a question.

OH MY!!! NATURE HAPPENED!!

I don't need a lesson in nature every time I post something about wild animals ! I am very aware of how nature works , and I can still feel sad about it.

I have " The Force ' with me in my car , I brought a car shade with the pic of Star War characters on it. :) I have a sliver car and I never realize there are
so many of them now I can find my car easier !

Thinking it's cool to have a county in Nevada that has the same last name as mine. :)
