Josh Duggar resigns from Family Research Council after sexual abuse allegations

I had looked up the definition of a pedophile. Medically, if the person is an adult then the kids they are attracted to need to be 13 or younger. If the person is at least 16, then the kids need to be at least 5 years younger than themselves. If the person is under 16, then they cannot be called a pedophile.

And because Josh was under 16 when he did this he is not a pedophile.

Well, family action on Josh Duggar is lenient and he got away from that, but with public criticism, that's not going be well for him.

If continue, more commercial will ask TLC to be pulled as well and this shows cannot survive without support from commercial.

That's not HBO for you.

The show is extremely successful and money talks, especially with his two sisters and the wedding TLC has been following. This is a good family that had something horrible to deal with and they did. They're not to blame for what the law does or doesn't do. Liberals don't hold 14 year olds to adult standards....and you can't have it both ways - either they knew what they did was wrong and are responsible, or they're too young to know better. The law felt that a 14 year old offender was not old enough to be tried as an adult. We also don't know if he himself was raped or molested because that's sealed as well. If Josh bows out of the show, it could continue for more seasons to come.

There are teens got charged as adult and lifetime registration as sex offenders for molest children that are younger than 11 years old, so Josh Duggar got away with that and having a celebrity privilege is probably factor.

That's not liberal that brought up - all people, even liberal, conservative and moderate strongly condemn child molesters backfire at Josh Duggar and Duggar family - there are a lot of comments. Only smaller group, anti-gay, pro-Christian are defending Duggar family. If you want to defending Duggar family, that's extremely disgusting of you.

It is up to TLC but without commercial support, this shows are not going to survive, anyway.

No charges were filed because at the time, Arkansas had a three year limit after the molestation. If charges were not brought within three years, nothing can be done. Josh wasn't taken to the cops until he was 17 and he did this when he was 14.

Let's take it easy here and try to stay on topic. Let's not derail about liberals or christianity statements here.

Thanks.

EDIT: Thread has been cleaned up... I'm giving this a last chance. If this kind of discussion continues, I will have to lock this up.

That is not correct. Josh's father brought it to the attention of the church. It took the church 3 months (not three years) to report the activity to the police.

The following is a statement from the Duggars' facebook page:

Please read the following messages:

From Jim Bob and Michelle:

Back 12 years ago our family went through one of the most difficult times of our lives. When Josh was a young teenager, he made some very bad mistakes and we were shocked. We had tried to teach him right from wrong. That dark and difficult time caused us to seek God like never before. Even though we would never choose to go through something so terrible, each one of our family members drew closer to God. We pray that as people watch our lives they see that we are not a perfect family. We have challenges and struggles everyday. It is one of the reasons we treasure our faith so much because God’s kindness and goodness and forgiveness are extended to us — even though we are so undeserving. We hope somehow the story of our journey — the good times and the difficult times — cause you to see the kindness of God and learn that He can bring you through anything.

From Josh:

Twelve years ago, as a young teenager I acted inexcusably for which I am extremely sorry and deeply regret. I hurt others, including my family and close friends. I confessed this to my parents who took several steps to help me address the situation. We spoke with the authorities where I confessed my wrongdoing and my parents arranged for me and those affected by my actions to receive counseling. I understood that if I continued down this wrong road that I would end up ruining my life. I sought forgiveness from those I had wronged and asked Christ to forgive me and come into my life. I would do anything to go back to those teen years and take different actions. In my life today, I am so very thankful for God’s grace, mercy and redemption.

From Anna:

I can imagine the shock many of you are going through reading this. I remember feeling that same shock. It was not at the point of engagement, or after we were married - it was two years before Josh asked me to marry him. When my family and I first visited the Duggar Home, Josh shared his past teenage mistakes. I was surprised at his openness and humility and at the same time didn't know why he was sharing it. For Josh he wanted not just me but my parents to know who he really was -- even every difficult past mistakes. At that point and over the next two years, Josh shared how the counseling he received changed his life as he continued to do what he was taught. And when you, our sweet fans, first met me when Josh asked me to marry him... I was able to say, "Yes" knowing who Josh really is - someone who had gone down a wrong path and had humbled himself before God and those whom he had offended. Someone who had received the help needed to change the direction of his life and do what is right. I want to say thank you to those who took time over a decade ago to help Josh in a time of crisis. Your investment changed his life from going down the wrong path to doing what is right. If it weren't for your help I would not be here as his wife — celebrating 6 1/2 years of marriage to a man who knows how to be a gentleman and treat a girl right. Thank you to all of you who tirelessly work with children in crisis, you are changing lives and I am forever grateful for all of you.

Goodness, gracious .. great balls of fire!

However, Lewis's rock and roll career faltered in the wake of his marriage to his 13-year-old cousin when he was 22.

He had little success in the charts following the scandal and his popularity quickly faded. His live performance fees plummeted from $10,000 per night to $250.

But ... but ... Steven Tyler of Aerosmith adopted a 14 year old girl and had sex with her for 3 years before giving her back to her parents ... and he was one of the judge's on American Idol.

Yike, that's very sad.

I know that anti-gay groups are attempting to destroying the LGBT communities for years.

Now, I know some LGBT people are retaliating against anti-gay groups by destroying the religious communities.

LBGT are not trying to destroy religions. They are pointing out the lies and hypocrisy used to attack and oppress them and prevent them from equal rights and treatment.
RELIGION IS TRYING TO CONSTANTLY FORCE THEIR DOCTRINE AND BELIEF OF THOSE WHO ARE NOT MEMBERS OF THAT RELIGION.
LBGT community is not trying to force any religion or it's members to become GAY LESBIAN BISEXUAL OR TRANSGENDER. Therefore they are not opressing or destroying any religion.

Please re-read my post - I said "some" but not all of them.

It is part of social war between two factions. I don't blame on people who are destroying the religious communities due to many years of mistreatment and hypocrisy. Religious communities enjoyed their power and privilege for many centuries.

Steven Tyler = grown man

Rob Lowe = grown man

Bill Clinton = grown man

Roman Polanski = grown man

Josh Duggar = teenager

Please provide examples of how anyone in the LGBT community is actively destroying religion. Only way to do this is to convert believers into non-believers. Which should not even be possible if someone truly beloved in God/Allah etc. Faith is not subject to reason. Hence why it is called Faith.

The Romans allowed gay sex with young boys while they persecuted Christians.

Many centuries huh? Really?

They are just attempting to make religion "illegal".

You know ... Like attempting to pass laws like religious speech is really hate speech and other futile attempts like that.

There is example - Lesbian couple forced religious business owner that objecting the gay marriage to make a wedding cake, if they refuse so they took to court and won.

They could go to other business that is friendly to LGBT people, that's easy solution but I understand about how they feel.

The anti-gay campaign that used Christianity as their reason to opposing to gay rights, constantly attacking on gay people, so it does devalue the Christianity and make them looks bad, so it make Christianity as enemy to gay people.

I converted to atheist in last Jan due to anti-gay environment in Christianity and when I mention that I'm Christian so I was attacked so I'm no longer to belong in Christian community anymore.

LGBT isn't well known until 1950s and homosexuality was illegal in nearly all countries, also in US, it is strongly discouraged, otherwise LGBT people will be homeless or placed in mental institution.

You need to read LGBT history and there are a lot of information.

You balanced out really far by blaming on homosexuality and protecting Christianity.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of damage in Christianity and no wonder about many people left Christianity to become atheist, agnostic and none.

It is up to you to fix the ugly publicity of Christianity, but I'm not going to fix at all. It will not help anything if you continue to attacking on LGBT communities.

No, they want religious communities to treat with respect instead of being hateful toward the communities. There is no such as "illegal".

Anti-gay statements are unacceptable and it is just like you are imposing your belief in my mouth that where you won't respect us.

You should probably read some history yourself. Orthodox Jews do not support same sex marriage either, and it is based on their religious beliefs.

We're they "privileged" as you claim for centuries?
