So Jiro, I know your a bright guy. If you think my "opinion" is way out there, then please explain to me why Assange cut and run when he was charged with sex crimes (???).

Why not face his accusers (???)

Why threaten to dump all of these ILLEGALLY obtained documents at once if he is arrested (????)

the servers in the US have refused to host wikileaks because the material leaked was illegally obtained.

Amazon and Paypal have yanked wikileaks.

Wikileaks is still on the internet and is using a Swedish based server. The information is still available to the public. however, Assange is releasing the information slowly. He made a downloadable zip file with all of the 250,000documents on the file but it needs a password to open it. he made this publicly available so anyone can download these files, but they do not have access to them. They need the password.

he is claiming that if anything happens to him, the password will be released so access to all of these documents will be immediately available.
 
Steiny, how does one go about obtaining said password? I think I'd be reluctant; that's a lotta files. Wonder if one could pick and choose what to download?

If you get the password, open the files on some other person's computer. Who knows what virus or other nasty might be attached to those files.

Whose computer should we volunteer for this project? :hmm:

blackmail and social engineering are not the same. get out the LEGAL BOOKS and look up the legal definition of "social engineering" and "blackmail" aka extortion. those 2 words are not the same. not even close.

secondly... show me where did he say (or something like it) - "c'mon... arrest me for sex crime or I will release the documents"
 
Julian Assange believes that the truth should be revealed, so who can blame him?

Besides, Aussie Govt is on his shit list right now because our Govt is collaborating with US Govt regarding Assange.

Aust Govt is looking for a way to ban him from coming into his homeland. I think they've chosen the wrong person to pick on. Personally, I believe it's the wrong decision to seek an removal of his citizenship.

Just so nobody is confused... This password protected cache of documents is already out in torrent files that were downloaded over the summer. These are not the recently 250k trove of state department documents. Supposedly, these files are more "dangerous" (more potential to change power distribution).

"social engineering" is normally reserved for a hacking technique and grossly misapplied if some talking head thought it'd sound cool to label political damage as if it were the same thing. It moves in opposite directions... Usually a hacker gains a password by utilizing "social" means...like calling a victim and pretending to be a representative of a reputable company. Politically, it sounds like the talking are trying to frame the impact of this recent wikileak file dump as something that will upset the people who help those get into power.

And Newt Gringrich is an idiot. "information terrorism". Really?. The period at the end of the sentence literally killed people??? How about "slam dunk"?

What's more concerning is the attitude of government officials and the perception that information is bad. It's only bad if it's false. Further, more information typically decreases the chances of war; hence the terms "legitimacy" and "transparency" in political science circles. No government official will ask the UN to get involved, they don't want to appear weak.

Reporting on Russian corruption or misuse of power isn't exactly something that hasn't been published before either. WikiLeaks sells data. Is it unprofitable? :dunno:

Sorry, I went to sleep after you asked that question. The password has 256 characters and is impossible to crack.

I know the difference between the two, but I am not sure you do. (I am not trying to "pick on you" so don't go there).

Blackmail is essentially threatening to release information against an individual, or group, for monetary or personal gain. It is illegal. It is what Assange is doing.

Social engineering is what I believe George Soros is doing. I honestly believe Julian Assange is the "fall guy" for George Soros.

George Soros wanted George Bush out of office. He wanted to attack Hillary because of her stance/opposition to "Moveon.org" and "Code Pink" (both being organizations he funds - just like he funds wikileaks).

He is an aging billionaire with a god complex. Which equates to a very very dangerous individual when he decides to attack publicly elected officials in his own personal smear campaign.

This intel wikileaks dump was designed.
