Why Cochlear Implants Hurt Deaf Culture?

Not 100% but close, it's really depends on each individual ...

yes that correct but can't promised say that..

Just actual I say 0% to 100%

If suppose HOH got implanted goes for almost 100% .. Nah.. I wud say about 98% effictive works... ain't my breath..
If suppose Profound Deaf got implanted goes for about 55% to 70%

Just I say.. guess~ :dunno:

I understand GalaxyAngel but since CI isn't a cure so there's no way it could be 100% right?..

;)

That's only I know about 1% of deaf population (not including with elderly) that got implanted in USA and 99% are not. Deaf population with sign language (profound hearing loss) in USA are about 1 million (not included with elderly) and that's not alot but very small increase in percent or no change in percent in between 1990's and 2000's but for numbers are increasing and percent are small or no change though.

The hearing loss for elderly people does get implanted and there's about 34 millions for elderly people with hearing loss in USA.

For worldwide, checked from CI website that 70,307 people got implanted. (for all age in total from kids to elderly)

How come I've seen a few posts in this forum repeatly saying that their deaf child is no longer deaf but hearing and no one says nothing about it until Cheri brings that up, and someone decide to throw a fist about it then, how is that being fair here?

Maybe if they change how they post, then it wouldn't have been brought up in the first place. I have to be fair here because I can see it too, and I can't blame some of them for bringing it up...

Beside it goes both ways to be honest

I must have missed these posts. Can you give me a link please? Are you talking about Icecream? I didn't think Icecream was saying that the deaf child was a hearing child, my take on his message was that if they wanted to call themselves that then let them. Have I understood incorrectly?

And it's not true that no one is not saying anything about it. Did you miss my posts saying that for a person to call themselves hearing after a CI is bizarre? Cheri is preaching to the choir here and it just seems a waste of debate because we are just talking about some clearly unbalanced individuals here who are in need of counselling.

No, it wasn't icecream's post, I rather not to name anyone ... :)

And beside Cheri is my sister, and it does hurt my feelings when I see others pushing her down just because she sees it different than the rest of us do, and beside I may not agree on everything she says but I do have the respect of the things she strongly feels or believes in...

I understand that it's natural to defend your sister after all we feel protective of our flesh and blood. But I don't think that anything I wrote was a personal attack on her. I am just at a loss to understand who those supposed hordes of people who claim to be hearing after having CIs are and why so many posts are devoted to this occurence. I am sure it happens but not often enough to threaten the existence of the community.

I just feel that it's diverting the discussion away from honest dialogue with those who have concerns about the future of the deaf culture and those who want to make use of CIs both for themselves and or their children.

I hope this post is taken in the spirit that it's intended and that you aren't offended.

Boult, what does that link have to do with Sign? That's a pro-oral site!!!!
I really wish that more oral schools presented themselves as giving dhh students another useful tool, rather then demonizing Sign or going on and on about how it's SO WONDERFUL that dhh kids can be healthy and normal and not need Sign or other special needs stuff.
huh? what's with you jumping on me? you are just quoting me out of context! I was just telling her what I would give the prospective parent NEVER MIND WHAT Angel said in her before mine. I was merely letting her know that I just give those three. now you went out of your way and got rise out of my post eh! now angel responded to yours that I was giving more than 1 links to be less biased without telling the parent what to do which you seems to be doing that! Learn to be less biased!

Actually i remmy reading that only a small percentage of those eligable to be implanted, have opted to be implanted, and even with the population that has been implnated, very few of them go all audist and supioroer.

about 10,000 deaf Americans (from kids to adult) already got implanted.

99% not implanted... that will be a wonder as it is only expensive hearing aid...not a cure for deafness nor it can make you hearing.

Remember it is a tool to enable someone to communicate. I do not mind if deaf adults want to be implanted. I only OBJECT to the way parents try to implant deaf kids thinking it was the cure of deafness. This is how the system is corrupted to fool parents into thinking it is a miracle.

:bsflag:

In my opinion (and this is mine alone) if a deaf child gets implanted, and learns to speak coherantly, can understand what people say, can communicate with the outside world without needing an interpereter, can use a phone, listen to music etc...

THAT is a miracle :)

You got a good point there but remember some hard of hearing people can hear so well with their hearing aids, even can understand what people are saying, communicate very well without an interpreter and can hear phone, music etc....

It would be nice if I was hard of hearing like Roadrunner
