No, the charges weren't dropped. That's why there was a current active warrent out for his arrest.

For prosecuting the original crime, yes (except for murder). But Polanski fled his sentence, not prosecution. That's a different situation.

Right... for failing to appear before court to receive his sentencing after he plead guilty. My mistake, I was thinking of the interview with the victim back in '97 and 2003.
 
I guess Whoopi Goldberg has invented her own definition. I may be a fan of her movies doesn't mean I agree with her views.

Mr. Polanski fled the country after a admitted guilty plea of the rape of a 13 year old girl.

If in court it was found that the perpetrator gave er drugs as a way to control the child victim, took nude photos of the child for his later pleasures, and proceeded to forcefully rape the victim vaginally and anally, per the childs Grand Jury testimony.

The teenager's troubling--and contemporaneous--account of her abuse at Polanski's hands begins with her posing twice for topless photos that the director said were for French Vogue. The girl then told prosecutors how Polanski directed her to, "Take off your underwear" and enter the Jacuzzi, where he photographed her naked. Soon, the director, who was then 43, joined her in the hot tub. He also wasn't wearing any clothes and, according to Gailey's testimony, wrapped his hands around the child's waist.

The girl testified that she left the Jacuzzi and entered a bedroom in Nicholson's home, where Polanski sat down beside her and kissed the teen, despite her demands that he "keep away." According to Gailey, Polanski then performed a sex act on her and later "started to have intercourse with me." At one point, according to Gailey's testimony, Polanski asked the 13-year-old if she was "on the pill," and "When did you last have your period?" Polanski then asked her, Gailey recalled, "Would you want me to go in through your back?" before he "put his penis in my butt." Asked why she did not more forcefully resist Polanski, the teenager told Deputy D.A. Roger Gunson, "Because I was afraid of him

I find it odd how people seem to condone celebrities and famous people when it comes to crimes of child rape or underage sex as if it were ok. Whoopi just showed her side of the coin the reflects pretty much how Hollywood feels.

It's funny how people try to lump all the celebrities and such into one category, Hollywood. It's just as bad as people saying that deaf people are bad tippers.

People can be really petty sometimes.
