he meant to say in sarcastic tone that they want their kids to TALK by flapping their jaws (mouth)^Angel^ said:I'm sorry I don't understand what you meant by that

No, Boult, I meant that whole sentence sarcastically.Boult said:he meant to say in sarcastic tone that they want their kids to TALK by flapping their jaws (mouth)
sarcastically rude?
But so many of them are talking about how hearing is the only way, when it truly isn't.^Angel^ said:Honestly from what I've seen so far is that they're trying to tell you to walk a miles in their shoes before making such a judgement on how they raise their deaf children and the choices they do make for them...

Well, it seems the majority of hearing parents don't want deaf kids--they want kids who can hear because they don't understand that deaf people can indeed succeed (at the time they make the CI choice). Many find out after the CI and/or oralism decision.^Angel^ said:I'm not sure if I'm getting this clearly, as you can see I've missed many many posts for the last serveral weeks, so there's so much to catch up on here, but if you can explain a bit more on what you meant above maybe I can truly understand where you're coming from on this...
I didn't even understand what the heck he was trying to get at.Cheri said:How is living a life being deaf was so hard on you? You poor thing. Suck it up and live it.

Even when it's a hearing child and a hearing parent, he or she will accidentally do things to hurt that child. I consider my relationship with my parents to be extremely healthy, but I can't honestly say it was free of hurtful things. Please don't allege that it's only hearing parents with deaf children that can make mistakes. It's universal and totally well-meaning people can do opposite things, both thinking it's for the best. And in most cases, the right and the wrong depends on the particular parent and the particular child, not on what the outside world has to say.
I don't know enough about the CI myself. I just know about my own relationship with my parents, and those relationships within my own family--and I think that's enough.
