What are you thinking about? Part VIII

No clue... the mess up with my SSN has to contribute... but it is only the VA I have four birthdays. With the state they have me at 2. I have a roaming 1 in my birthday... one parent puts it at the day of my birth the other the year... results? I have no clue when I was born and that is ridiculous in this day and age...

Hmmm...wondering of Identity Theft is the culprit?

Hmm honestly have no clue, would of had to have happened when I was really young. But it does make some sense. Too many issues have come from this....Straightening it out has been a pain and they just tend to mess it up more so now I leave it be.... figure others have issues with multiple personalities... I just have an identity issue. The state issue I do know comes from my parents, to this day they argue over my birthdate.

Your profile says location is Georgia. Does that mean the state of Georgia in the USA? IF you were born in a hospital in the USA they should have records of your birth. I am not sure how what your parents are saying gets on an official birth certificate.

That is the messed up part. I did not enlist in two different branches. I went Navy :) however under my SSN I have two complete identify with birth certificates, school records, shot records, even work history. They are each listed under a different borthday, my parents argue when I was born and they both fought for their date, so even the hospital has me under two birthdays.... so I learn about this when I join the navy. I go to get my SS card and they tell me about it and I get to choose which birthday I want. I thought it was the end of it... nope to this day I have files being added under both ... so move to the VA and all of its issues... some how I have multiple files there as well... smh I really am not sure how this keeps happening

I don't know if she means the "birth" hospital or the VA hospital
She could have been born at home, not at a hospital.

Jezie, is it possible you were conceived before your parents married and that's why they disagree on the birthdate (wanting to hide that fact)?

Yes, I was born in the US in a hosptial. My understanding through piecing all of this together is that both my parents have "concrete" evidence when I was born. So the hospital "made a mistake" and they were fixing it. I do not know what the original was or anything. It was all paper and something happened to the original paperwork... it is a really messed up thing.

Ah no, they were married for a long time when I came along. I was the baby. My parents just loved to fight and prove the other wrong. They go so tied up in proving it that my identity is a mess....

Wow, that is a mess. I'm surprised the Navy didn't make you straighten it out while you were active. You could have used the resources of NCIS and FBI then, especially if you needed a background check for clearance.

I hope you can find some birth hospital records, birth announcements from the newspaper or that your family mailed out, state birth certificate, or another relative. This could mess up more of your benefits down the road, or limit your travel, or who knows what.

If all else fails, perhaps a court could issue you a revised birth certificate with the date most reasonable and beneficial to you. With that in hand, you could then have all the other records changed to agree with that date.

I wish your parents could put aside their pride and consider how this hurts you. :(

Oddly I still got all the clearances I needed for the Navy... which surprised me. The Navy did not consider it a threat, just saw it as an administrative error and once I chose a borthdates I have used the same one for everything. I have also hold a us passport so it does not affect travel either. However, the benefits later in life, I have to agree, they will be shot. Too much of my work history is split between the borthdates. As for my parents, that will not happen... their new argument is whose fault it is that I am deaf. So I live my life and let them have their pettiness... eventually the state, VA, and I will come to an agreement on who I am.

Dang... That is a mess alright.

I had thought of the identity thing- as I know in some families the child may have a similar or same name as a parent and the parent's stuff will get mixed with the kid's stuff. For example a mother would be named Sarah (maiden name) (last name) and her daughter would be named Sarah Michelle but goes by Michelle. Credit reports sometimes screw this up and literally change the birth date on the kid's to their mother's birthdate (yes this has happened to somebody I know lol).

But considering it is all under the same SSN with 4 different birthdays and 2 different service branches... I almost want to say I would not be surprised if the data was somehow incorrectly entered or sorted in the mainframe and backend database processing (Have seen that happen too).

But do understand the "what is my birthday?" part- my paternal grandmother- her 4 children really don't know her true birthday(or year for that matter)... she never really told anybody, no birth certificate that we are aware of-- and not born in the US.

Thinking.... a lot to do on the vacation including the road trip although still making good progress.

My father in law. He had an aneurysm yesterday. I spent all afternoon and Eve at the hospital and then they transferred him to another hospital for surgery. We've been waiting for an OR to open up. His brain is still bleeding so none of it is good.

Thinking about people who say "I'm done", but remain lurking, then pop-up again and again.

I'm sorry. I hope things improve.

:( Hoping there will be a positive outcome. Will be thinking of you.

I am thinking the best for AC and her FIL. Also, I am thinking how damn lucky that I am to be deaf, while riding w/ wife (hearing) and her Mom (hearing), 7hrs each way on our trip to WI.

Thank you, everyone. He came through his 4 hour surgery relatively well. His speech is still slurred but that may improve over time. They are keeping him in the ICU for at least 2 weeks.
