What are you thinking about? Part IV

If you learned something doing your assignments, you didn't bust your ass for nothing. You gained what education is intended to impart...knowlege.:cool2: The rest is nothing more than a compliment. The knowlege is the valuable result.

This happened to my assignment - see what I said on my facebook status below
I am well ahead of schedule by two weeks.

During the individual demo of my subsystem assignment @ uni earlier tonight...I have been told that I was the only two people who have done the subsystem and makefile (to make it work ) with impressive interface. Winnah! :D

I'm thinking that you find out who your true friends are when you're having health problems. I'm also glad that many people on AD understand what it's like to have health issues.

Oh, yeah!

I am thinking , what is wrong with people when they don't reply to your messages? I am thinking, that I am not the:eek3: only one , a friend of mine emailed someone and they didn't reply back either.
It is possible they didn't receive the message, and it is possible you didn't receive their response. Messaging and email are not 100% foolproof.

Yes, there is some truth to that. My inbox says, sent who knows.

Listen. TWA is not pretentious at all and I don't consider him to be one. I understand where you guys are coming from. Working at a well reputable company for free is ridiculous for me as well, but there are situations where I would just for networking opportunity and a great experience on my resume especially if it leads to my dream career.

I'm not taking anything out on you and don't see myself to be doing so. I'm merely sharing my opinion and participating in the discussion, but I seem unable to do so because of how you share your opinions, making me feel like a piece of shit because that's what you do.

And I KNOW myself that I'm worth more than minimum wage. I have a college degree after all. Even you would say the same for yourself. Doesn't mean that I'm pretentious. Not minding to have an unpaid internship that leads to my dream career doesn't make me pretentious either.

Sometimes you just have to keep trying in order to achieve your long term goal. I'm sorry my life doesn't work out easily just like yours. I'm sorry that we see things differently. Now how many times have I told you to leave things alone? Leave it alone. Maybe I'll never be able to "emulate" you. Maybe you should learn how to "emulate" me this time.

Value doesn't have anything to do with it. I have done my share of unpaid internships in connection with earning my master's and my Ph.D. and becoming licensed. Didn't mean my work and my abilities were not valuable. And I agree, to think that you are so special that you are above an unpaid internship is pretty damned swell headed.

Not to mention, volunteer work looks great on a resume and shows a prospective employer that you are motivated and willing to experience and learn new things without having to be paid to do it. Employers like to see intrinsic motivation. They certainly will think twice about hiring someone who projects that old "give me something first" attitude.

I am thinking of pay day, Fri night zumba and AB work class!

I'm thinking that people who try to hide their prejudices are soooooo transparent.:laugh2: They always let it slip sooner or later. Usually sooner.:laugh2:

I agree 100%

I think unpaid "internships" are nothing more than indentured servitude. Call me a socialist, but I think everyone deserves to be paid fairly for their labor unless they are volunteering for charity or nonprofits (some nonprofits are very dubious in their "nonprofit" status.)

Hey, the indentured servants did get a free voyage passage to the New World to escape the King of Britian's power. :D

And the general school of thought is that internships are paid through the experience you receive that qualifies you for a job that you would not otherwise qualify for.

Thinking of my brother's girlfriend when she does her settlement for her new house tmw. :)

I didnt get paid when I did my student teaching internships for my undergrad and grad degrees. However, it was required to get my degrees. Dont know if I would have done them for free without getting a degree. :dunno:

I don't generally see it that way because there's no such thing as free bread. It costs money to commute so every bit helps. If a company/organization wants to do unpaid internship, then at least give us some kind of compensation like commuting cost. lunch. a ticket to movie theater. anything.

This is not the same as "gimme gimme gimme" or entitlement. It's just a matter of principle. If one helps you out, then you are "obliged" to help out in return even though you don't have to. I help out handful of friends and people without expecting a monetary compensation but I do expect something in return. I'm not a big fan of monetary compensation so what did I expect in return? a favor :)

Because that degree of experience is required for you to have the degree that now says that you are qualified to hold the degree. Internships are not the same as volunteer work. Internships are required in fields where practical experience is mandatory for you to be qualified to do a particular job.

It costs money to pay my tuition, too, but I would not be able to practice without my degrees. Internships are required in fields where practical experience is necessary to be qualified to do a job where another's welfare is at stake. It is part of the training. An intern is under direct supervision of someone who has special credentials to supervise. It is intended as a learning experience.

I'm just pissed once again. More unfuckingbelievable drama and words that were like weapons.

I get home from busting my ass today at both jobs (didn't even eat), and I'm flat out exhausted. Maddie wanted me to practice softball with her and I told her I would after dinner as my mom was in the middle of making it when I got home. It would have been a 30-45 wait at tops. Well my dad starts in on a rampage that if I didn't get out in the backyard and play with her right away that I didn't even deserve to eat dinner. WTF?!?! He's retired and he didn't do anything today. He said 'Well you should be the mom!" I said I was tired from working and that I would like some time to relax for a bit and get something to eat." Well he just muttered under his breath that I was a bitch and all this other crap. After dinner I was in the backyard practicing then he comes out there and proceeds to tell me to climb over the fence into the cow pasture where the grass is waist high and practice softball out there because 'we'll break a window'. I told him we were in the extreme far corner of the yard and that there's no way Maddie is going to hit a ball that far. He then said 'if you break a window, you're paying for it!'. Well that just did it. I told Maddie to grab her stuff we're going to the ballfields in town to practice, and that's exactly what we did and it was far more peaceful. I came back home and he's all mad at me because I won't acknowledge him. I just want to scream, I want to pack my shit and get out. The only reason I can't is because I don't have the money saved up to move out and I would like to get my smaller bills settled before moving out. I'm fed up and I feel like moving to Russellville or Dover. I at least have friends over there that don't treat me this way. My other problem is my job is in Belleville which is over an hour from Russellvile.

This in red.

What is your dad's problem? It seems like he resents having you living there with him?

You really and truly need to separate from your parents. They seem to be toxic for you.
