Thinking how tired I am of the rain. It's been raining 3 days non-stop. It even turned to snow last night, but it melted first. I WANT SUNNY SPRING !!!!

Maybe tomorrow. It looks like we have sun here today.

Thinking about going to the Orioles vs. Red Sox game tonight. Go, Red Sox!!

Also thinking about LoveBlue's trip. Will you have a layover in D.C.?

Very short - about an hour or so (didn't want my daughter to be tempted to go to the Air & Space Museum - which she's been to in the past). Plan to just hang out at Union Station, grab a bite to eat, etc.

Thinking about whether I should be a camp counselor or not this summer in Aspen. It's unpaid, but sounds like a lot of fun. What if I still don't have a job by then? Could as well be a camp counselor.

Aspen Camp for the D/HH? That's a beautiful camp, I had a ton of fun when I went. I'm surprised it's unpaid though??

How come it's unpaid?

Yeah, it's unpaid unfortunately. It's intern/volunteer position according to the website and they only have three paid positions... One program coordinator and two interpreters. I obviously can't be an interpreter and I think everyone would be trying to apply for program coordinator.

Scroll down to the bottom for more information regarding the openings Aspen Camp of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

sorry but I don't believe in unpaid job position. or even internship. I've never worked for free. "Unpaid Internship/Work" should be outlawed especially for organization/company that has profits. For non-profit organization that is mostly volunteer, I'm for it.

That's a .org. Doesn't that mean it is a non-profit?

I agree 100%

I think unpaid "internships" are nothing more than indentured servitude. Call me a socialist, but I think everyone deserves to be paid fairly for their labor unless they are volunteering for charity or nonprofits (some nonprofits are very dubious in their "nonprofit" status.)

The layover is at Union Station which is about a 5 min walk from the tower. I'm traveling from DE to UT via train and if the trains are on time, I should have about 3-1/2 hours to wander around (there's 5-1/4 hours between when I'm supposed to arrive and when the next train leaves).
The trains were not on time when I rode Amtrak years ago. They were hours late.

I agree wholeheartedly about unpaid internships. They're all over the place and they offer "experience" when I believe that they're just taking advantage of you. I think NYC is starting to crack down on it now?

However, Aspen Camp IS a non-profit organization (I think) and I've met the camp team who run it and they're amazing people. I heard that they're on a budget this year so they're unable to pay and they're asking for donations which would help out A LOT.

I did an unpaid internship. I got paid in my experience and what I learned. In this economy, you don't always get to choose a paid internship over an unpaid one.

Not necessarily. Anyone can purchase a .org URL...you, me, Joe Schmoe from Kokomoe. Some times companies will purchase all the .xyz they can so someone else doesn't buy it and confuse consumers.

regardless of economy's condition.... how can one work for free (unless he's filthy rich)? everybody's got expense to pay. It costs money for one to commute to work.

I refuse to stoop that low to do it free for someone's profitable gain. Unpaid Experience? LOL!

I didn't commute far...I worked on the 2nd floor and lived on the 3rd floor. :)

There simply were not a lot of options that would meet the criteria of my major, so there was not a lot to pick and choose from.

Experience is a commodity. Would you have been hired in your current position with no experience?

Some unpaid internships usually lead to a full time permanent position so it can be seen as a positive experience. Don't be too full of yourself. Some companies really can't afford hiring someone new in this economy.

Speaking of that, I heard back from Smithsonian today and they're holding their breath until their 2012 budget comes out so it looks like I'll have to wait a while and see if they can afford hiring me. Even I'd work at Smithsonian for free, it'd look great on my resume and it'd be an amazing networking opportunity.
