U guys R making me want CI more now. I have longstanding internal debate, but I want to be in music more again and sing, I haven't had any public performance in years since losing hearing I would feel my expectations would be to high of results. I still think I would do well after mappings to sound processing and regaining more capeabilities to sing and annoy all the hearies.
There is no harm in checking it out. Finding out if you are a candidate still leaves it in your hands.
Sigh...gonna call my surgeon next week. The build up of fluid near the implant has gotten worse instead of better. There is no redness, and the incision itself has almost healed. I think it is because I have been sleeping on that side during the night. I find myself waking up and turning over a few times. I just want it to heal and not delay the activation.
that very well could be. how about sleeping in a recliner in the meantime?
Yes, silly, I did have CI audi already approval.....Im just gun shy still, know too much what surgeons do. I know I will do it some day.
I may just have to do that. I did make a conscious effort not to last night, and managed to sleep on the other side all night. Well, all of four hours anyway, as I went to bed late and had to be up at 4am for work. And it didn't bother me as much today. Of course, that could be due to the tinnitus that has reared it's ugly head again and won't calm down.
i know what you mean about tinnitus. mine was g*d AWFUL following both of my surgeries. i begged my ci surgeon to give me something, so he prescribed prednisone, but i refused to take it for fear of side effects such as depression and mood swings (which i'm already subject to because of being bipolar).
I have had the tinnitus for 3 years, two of them non stop, 24/7. After the surgery, it calmed down a lot and was the closest to silence I have had since it started. But now, it is getting loud again, and high pitched in that ear. The other is just a quiet hum, like some machine in the background. I am just hoping that after activation, it will quiet down again.
it should.
in fact, most ci users who experienced tinnitus following surgery report significant relief (if not complete elimination) of symptoms upon activation.
That gives me even more reason to be wanting the next 18 days to hurry by. BTW..love your new avatar. It speaks to so many of us.
Well, I faxed my doctor (easier than vco call or iprelay) and asked him about the fluid buildup. As a result, I have an appointment on Thursday to see him. I just don't want anything to delay my activation.
He said mine is normal. Of course I never get to talk to my doctor in person. His staff got back to me after talking to him.
Hope everything is ok for you etalton.
good. better safe than sorry. let us know what happens.
My thoughts exactly. With activation 15 days away, I don't want to be told I have to wait longer. Will let you know as soon as I get home. Long drive and hubby is trusting me to do it by myself.
