Surgery Day

Do set up blog! Would be good for getting advices or reading other people's experinces.

Have a good rest.

Okay Charlotte, I took a stab at it and started a blog. I have to admit I kind of cheated, as I had letters to people and my own personal thoughts to fall back on to back date it a bit. But, I am happy with it overall. After going back and rereading some of the blogs that have been offered here, I have to agree with you. If I can help others as others have helped me, it is all good.

Did any of you go back to work just one week after your CI? I am due back to work tomorrow and a little freaked out. I have only been out "in public" a few times since the surgery and I know I was just plain worn out after returning home. I am supposed to work a full 8 hour day and just hope I can handle it.

I know some CI users who have and were just fine.

etalton, if you can't handle an 8 hour workday, perhaps you can talk to your boss about working half-time until you feel more comfortable working a full day.

Thanks Hear Again. I am sure I am making a mountain out of a molehill. Part of it is the long day, but part of it is the being uncomfortable with my own hair. That damned hair cut may not bother some, but with fairly short hair, it just bugs me. I guess that is female vanity...guys don't seem to mind shaving it all off.

That's true. I had long hair when I had both of my CI surgeries, so that's something I never had to deal with.

However, I could feel the "uneveness" of where my hair was shaved and it bugged the h*ll out of me.

It bugged me too...But it grew so quickly , that I was just for a week or two at most...Now even as a woman..I have them really short and spiky , that I need a haircut every month..but it was my solution for having the magnet properly attached , and for me feeling comfortable...

HearAgain , I had the impression that you were a man..But now I'm not so sure!! LOL!

You're not the only one, Vivie. In fact, alot of ADers think I'm male -- although I'm not sure why (perhaps it has to do with my writing style? :hmm:)

I grew my hair out long in preparation for the surgery. I thought I could just comb it over the shaved part. Instead I ended up looking like Joe Dirt. lol

They put me on short term disability until December 15th. I hope your workday goes well. What type of work is it?
I don't think I could handle it at this point. 90% of my job consists of communication and the other half is lifting 50 lbs blocks, wrenching ect. So I couldn't do it.

I grew my hair longer for CI, but it is still short hair. Just hoping the fuzz will continue to fill in, then will get a hair cut to even the back out a bit.
Wow..my doctor was pretty insistent about going back to work, with no restrictions at all. I work in retail, but in the back. Three days office work and 2 days receiving merchandise, with some heavy lifting on those days. As for communication, well, they are used to me by now, and since I don't work out on the floor, I don't frustrate the customers. I do find myself just not having a clue what some people say, and all I can do is be honest "it is easier to speech read with some people than with others, and if you have a thick mustache, I am clueless for sure". Of course, there are those that have found an easy fix for that...they just don't talk to me. LOL...oh well, such is life.

Vivie and Hear Again, Thanks. Glad I am not the only one stressing over a bad hair cut.
I wasn't sure you were male or female either Hear Again. Then, I read a blog by someone with that nick, and thought for sure it was you. It definitely sounded like the male perspective. :hmm:

:giggle::giggle::giggle: well I'm embarassed! :giggle::giggle::giggle:

Definitely your writing style , you write like someone that is expected to be male..talk about the expectations you have or the impressions , of someone meeting online! :giggle:

That's really interesting because there have been some ADers who I thought were male when they were actually female.

When it comes to guessing an ADer's gender, I'm horrible at it! :laugh2:

I actually chose my username as a play on words (like "hear again" instead of "here again")

Coincidentally, the username also works well since I have CIs and am able to "hear again" after 10 years of severe-profound hearing loss.

I wish I could find that blog again. Like I said, the nick was hear again and they talked about their children. The birth of the second child was top of the list and the blog made it sound like the spouse was the mother, not the person writing it. Oh, well...once again I have misplaced something I have read on the internet.
Anyway, that is why I thought you were male, not female..that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I quit wearing my hats as of today, except to go out in the cold, as that is not a good feeling right now.
I had to give up, as the hats I have all seem to have a band that hits right where the implant is. Talk about headaches, not migraines, but still annoying. Most people don't notice, and if they do, and don't know me, they probably think my beautician was distracted and did an "oops".:giggle:

:)

I've never written a blog before, but I have written a CI journal as well as two essays about my first and second CIs.

You can find them all here:

http://www.cihear.com/deafblind.html

Just click on the links that read, "New Beginnings" (CI journal), "Lisa's Activation Day," "Lisa's First Day of Sound" and "Lisa Has Bilateral Surgery."

Interesting read so far Hear Again. I downloaded them all to my pc so I can print them out and read them later. (OK, I admit it...it was a good tv night tonight.) :)
