Student got arrested in a major drug bust at Gallaudet University

I scared to say - sometime, the deaf could be factor in the court and I watch some documentaries about 2 deaf men got charged with murder in KY. The prosecutor and victim families want death penalty for 2 deaf men who did murdered the one man who worked at army surplus. At final, the jury rather to sentence 2 deaf men to life in prison instead of death penalty, so the victim families were very upset because they felt that deaf is factor for reduce the penalty.

For me, I got speeding ticket for speeding on interstate and the judge dismissed the speeding ticket, so I don't have to pay anything, even no court fees. There are some of my friends have same experience and one judge dismissed all speeding ticket (He got 3 in one year) without pay anything. For hearing people, they are on opposite because their cases will not dismissed without costly fight from traffic lawyers, but for first time, they usually have to attend the traffic school.

In bold - almost every murder case the prosecutor will recommend death sentence if they can prove intent to kill. Hearing or deaf or blind or missing arm or wheelchair don't matter. Only mental illness can escape it.

Victims (and their family) want justice, and justice for victim usually doesn't mean they want to see a prisoner with life with no parole. They want to see their convict dead so they feel fairness, and that's why we have the death penalty.

There is a statistic, that around 10% of public defenders are successful, so it's not like they always lose. They obviously don't get paid as much as private lawyers. After all, who wants to work a hard job and get paid nothing/free to defendant?

The real reason why public defenders don't win often is because they are usually assigned to people who just passed their BAR and are looking for jobs. Newly and no experience lawyers with just a few years or less on their belt. Someone has to do the public duty, just like people who do not want to go to jury duty.

Sure. A clock is right twice a day on the hour. That's just a tad under 10%.

I don't discredit there are good public defenders out there. I know there are. It doesn't bode well for her (or most others) long term to have a public defender. Hopefully she gets lucky for a change.

Of course, during my time, most students smoked in community bathroom (shared) in Peet, Benson and West, so I just smelled the marijuana all time when I enter.

It didn't happened to Carlin because of private bathroom.

not true. there were several busted to carlin. :giggle:

People SHOULD report dealers. In this case an RA could smell the pot.

When I was a student, and didn't want to report because i do not want to be targeted by them if they knew. I had not to see and pretend that i did not know and let R.A. do their jobs and they get paid for it.

You're right. I just read up on Obama's comments.

She wasn't caught with 700+ pills. That's just inaccurate reporting on the part of the news.

Yup, I only see - she got charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Eventually, she could get additional charge. :dunno:

I means - me, it didn't happened to me when I enter bathroom at Carlin Hall, so only one room (with roommate) and one bathroom.

For other students - possible but I won't know if they got busted.

Your fear is understandable. But our communities will not improve until citizens start helping police.

Same here.

Gotcha, yea i did witness a few ones. It was funny though. Let bygones be bygobnes. :D

My old time, there were a undercover guy named Spider guy. He was on campus almost everyday even he was following me because i was with someone who was a dealer. But the dealer was my classmate that we needed to work on the project. He told me why and assures me not to worry because i do not have anything on me or him. oh boy!

royale i wonder what happened to spider guy. Is he still working there?

Charges for prescription pills take longer because they have to verify the Rx. Also, IF the pills were in bottles with other names they will investigate to see if the pills were stolen or if there was a conspiracy. You can bet that 700 pills will bring more charges.

Correct. And the more that I talk to those with more familiarity surrounding the case... the pills isn't even remotely going to be a factor... but yeah... additional charges could come.

I'm hoping for the best for her. I remain steadfast that she's a good person who made a horrible choice. She's no criminal to others.

I haven't been to Gallaudet since the mid 90's but I remember him!

:giggle:

 Believe what you want. We will see what happens.

Both sources claimed it was from the police report. Why is the WJLA (700 pills) a more reliable source than the Washington Post (100 pills)? I'm genuinely curious why you would give that source more credibility?

I have seen several that said 700. One that say "over 100" which of course could be 700. But, believe what you want. I just hope the Feds get involved and make an example out of her.

I will.

I hope they don't.

I don't think so, so it don't existed when I was student in 2011-2012.
