Spokane NAACP President; white or black?

Just curious, how one would feel if you and another person were equally qualified for a job but the company needs to hire more minorities. So this other person claims to be black or Chinese and gets the job instead of you. Or received the scholarship instead of you because they lied. I think this is the reason people are upset.

To recieve the scholarship....she did not lie.... she was taken as black and given the scholarship. ...reviewing how one is supossed to fill out the race or ethnicity forms ...researching through multiple forms for government, educational, and employment....they state to select the race that you identify with or are socially accepted as ...seems on this she fulfilled that optioned in all fronts...

she did not lie? she was taken as black and given the scholarship?

so you're saying... the school was at fault for believing her and not reviewing her application more thoroughly?

Looking at how to fill out those forms for the government, education, and employment purposes it states to select what you identify as and some also include select what society identifies you as.... seeing as they assumed she was black that requirement was met...

What's the matter with just being American both for her and everyone else what ever origins are.Dont like or want to then see if origins take you back

Can I like this more than once? I do not understand the issue and believe concentrating on race so much does keep racism alive and strong in this country.

I do agree jez.but your country that do positive discrimination I don't know what the answer is.but what Jairo said maybe come down to personality ultimately rather than ethnic.I personaly think leave ethnic in doors at work in public all equal Americans so maybe this what she done...I horrified there black only university not sure this Mlk dream.

When I was in high school I was sent to a collage because I advanced past the schools levels for some subjects...it was an African American college.... I found the school to be more racist, entitled, and rude than any other "generic" college.... I found more lessons on why African Americans should be given things then I can shake a stick at... it was crazy...

To be honest, I'm not really understanding the Bruce Jenner conflict here. This woman doesn't have a biological disposition to being African-American other than the fact that all humans might have come from Africa. In addition, I can't actually say that Bruce Jenner lied or attempted to lie to gain a position.

Agreeing or disagreeing with either case does not make them both the same case.

I agree with both cases, im using jenner as an example of f the bias.
We should as a society accept both, if someone born white, sees themself as black, or if someine is born male and sees themsels as femal
Its their eyes,

I wont argue with them.
niether should anyone else,
in a nutshell

I was once told only whites can be racist with views like that no chance MLK dream come true..It was race relations organisation who told me that apparently they always officially right here........back in the day most nurses in UK either Irish or black to my knowledge no racism life been hard if there was.The Chinese could be awkward they never mixed.I just wonder if human condition has prehistoric gene we box ourselves due to fear of difference.a survival thing left over from Stone Age when many human specious died out..who knows

Under the following forums, African American identification requires:

"A person having origins in any of the black racial groups of Africa. "

http://www.usaid.gov/sites/default/files/Form-SF-181-Aug2005.pdf

This would not apply to anyone who is not black and does not have those origins, including Dolezal.

It's a black college but it's not black only.

Falsifying one's race can be a problem when applying for Affirmative Action programs or other programs that offer incentives for minorities.

Then, suppose, an Asian descent student wants to apply to a college that has a quota limit on Asian students. The only way that student can get in is to claim to be some non-Asian race.

Would that be ethical and legal?

Would it be better if we just leave the boxes of national heritages and just use the box for international as saying we are Americans?

I think it would be nice if we are just only Americans as we are born in North America. We can have a boxes of countries that immigrants who came to live for a better life in North America. It is really silly to have to fill out our nationalities of who we came from like DNA. It can cause problems of not being able to get hired or attending college that they want to attend. It can also have problems with housing and bank loans and other that people had to fill out to tell them who they are as Black, White, Chinese, Indian (India), Asian, Hawaiian, Native American and so on. It look like we are not getting equal or fair rights to have what we need to live on. That is why there are so much racism over nationalities that White people or other who are against people of different colors or culture (race).

Just say we are American instead of saying we are Black or White or others. That should be simple. Having different colors are not going to solve our problems when we are being against not getting our equal rights as equal, period. We are suppose to be human beings and should have our rights to be who we are no matter what jobs or college education, even trying to get housing loans and bank loans. It is not fair if we are not being equal because of our differences. All over the world, we are all different. So don't put down a person if a person want to be who they are as human being of different races. You have to remember we are a melting pots of colors in all walks of life. That is why we need to get along in spite of our differences.

The woman who claimed that she is Black is seeing the difference why White people always rejected people of different colors over the years like between 18th to 19th centuries. She understand their plights and frustrations and unfairness among colors of people.

So we should all be call "American" instead of White or Black or any other nationalities.

Do you understand my drift?

Nationality is one's country of origin. People born and raised in the US have a US Nationality. Ex: Someone born and raised in Russia but who recently moved to the US has a Russian Nationality

Race refers to your biological feature such as skin tone, eye shape, and type of hair

Ethnicity refers to a subgroup of Race including religion, language, traditions, and culture.

Ex: Me
Nationality: US (edit: meant to say American, haha)
Race: Caucasian
Ethnicity: Irish (where most of my family traditions and type of religion originate from

Still you are born in USA, it is better to be call "American" instead of all that trash that you put for race and ethnicity. This hurt when other people looked over at the form and decided that one or more don't approve of who you are.

As you being White, you get the privilege while others who are different of colors don't get the privileges at all.

What you see as privilege for white people, such as getting jobs, is not the same as a hand out or a hand up. Yes, white people do get jobs, but white people also work hard, go to school and compete against each other for those jobs. They also compete against other workers who are backed by affirmative action which is even harder.

The Dolezal case highlights the fact that perhaps being a minority and having that status gives an unfair advantage to those workers. And, she took advantage of it. So, you can talk about white privilege, but this case is really about minority privilege being taken advantage of by a white person.

I honestly don't know why I put US when I meant to put American

Also, I agree, since I am white, I do get certain privileges but I think we can both agree that in the States, no one is probably more privileged than white men. I also, for the most part, agree with you. I think what people are upset about is that she felt the need to keep her past race "secret", like she knew what she was doing would be frowned upon...I honestly don't care if people want to identify as a certain race/gender/species...I guess my issue would be if she was the least bit untruthful in order to receive something (scholarship, for example) than that shows me the kind of person she really is. The way I see it is, that if her parents are completely truthful in that her race is Caucasian/European and if she was untruthful in order to receive something, than she is not only a liar but a thief as well since she stole that away from someone who was completely honest about themselves...

I really was just giving the definition of the three terms because they are often inter-tangled and easy to get some switched around, I know I've done it before

Cheers
