i second that too, Aquablue , you made a GREAT thread i totally love it, when we are all discussing PEACEFULLY and at same time we are ACTUALLY learning things or well Opening our eyes to possibities to how to discuss the relationship between science and magic (and religion) it is always has been my favourite subject. a little bit about me, im a BA Sociology, I have done animals/society/ going to do Death and Dying at post-grad 700 level this year as well as a 3rd year toughest media studies paper on digital divide...(looking forward to 2011!!!)..and also might/will dabble with an English/religious studies papers on "Witchcraft and Magic" to trace back religion and magic...so there....


anyway, Relax !! dont get too wound up thinking you're creating a riot you havent !!!

its by far one of the best take on this 'touchy' issues , I give you my kudos' relax! and Cheers

I don't know exactly what you intended with this thread, when it is treading on a very thin line of breaching forum rules. Is it to 'feel out' whether or not the Deaf community's response would be more receptive than that in the hearing? Debates on differences in faiths are taboo here at AD. However, we have all been good to make sure that it hasn't formed into a debate and I am thankful for that, as many have expressed here. May I offer you a word of advice, take it or leave it as you may. If you enter into any form of debate in the future whether here on AD or elsewhere. You need to know your stuff. I found after reading your posts in this thread, halfway through I stopped. You seem in way over your head on this one. Many of your responses were "I don't know" quite repetitively. This is just my observation.

I must admit though, it has been an interesting read from the other posters in this thread so it has served a purpose, I suppose.
 
Beclak, im a coffee lover too, care for a freindly banter about the significance of the end of life and when people carries on living with the 'haunt' lol sorry my bad but i love your sharpness, although im a wee bit dull...but when you read my essays its like WTF did you write this? yes i live in another world....but i share coffees with people great too, hell if i'd could shout you a afrogatto you'd like it im sure...here google that if you dont know what it is...:)

:wave: Grummer, I'm all up for a coffee anytime. I didn't mean to be sharp, just concerned for AB. (Sorry AB, if it came across too harsh) Maybe that's the 'teacher' in me :shrug: It was good to see the discussion without the 'debate'. :D

i like your admission though for that i totally agree and aquablue was brave and yet very mature about it. Aqua did a great job, there is no reason to fear for banishment (pun intended lol), and yes life is too interesting to be it deemed 'taboo' (please dont ban me) but yeah regulations are there for good reasons for more that often do we realise why....unpredictable responses can create disharmony, and yet embarking on quest for -higher-minded-ness individual (read mature) people are able to engage and and have good discussions, so Aquablue , here have a nice New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc "Escarpment 2010" from me and relax...you did well to achieve this purpose without failure, hell this SHOULD be kept on the moderator's notes for 'best subject/threads of 2011" on the short list for 'awards'...thats my reckoning a serious but sound suggestion for the staff/volunteers of AD...

thats great, maybe someday when you come to New Zealand or if when I visit Thailand!, I didnt realise you're a teacher,ght that must be challeging and rewarding (meaning good and bad), ao you're another brave one too.

yes you ought to try that afrogatto sometimes...its like a ball of ice cream with a wee jug of hot expresso to pour on top, it is delicious in every way !!

So true, so true...that is where I stop and think that even though there are so many arguments against God, spending my entire life waiting for NOTHING is pretty sad. So what if I turn out to be wrong? Life is hard, life is painful...maybe religion IS a manmade invention, to help us to deal with the sadness, to help us deal with the deaths of those we love - so what if it is? By the time we find out we are wrong, IF we are wrong, we will be dead ourselves, and none of it will matter. What matters is life being better for it.

this i like!, this sort of talking not too offensive but it all relates back to how we 'think/believe' and with my post previously as i stated the brain have electrical activity, and (I think in the atom thread as well) that the quantum physics maintains that deep down at quark and neutrinos levels these particle (energy matters?) can be at 2 places at SAME time, which giving hints on why there's life after death - which by depending on how a person expects death, when it occur the following 'happens to them'...

so im supporting both, at the same time for so long science wasnt 'developed' as we know it now (still evolving at great speed -scariest part is its controlled by big funders- corporated and miltary-that i dont like)..we ahd religion to some how used as 'law' for morals'deeds at same times to deal with the unknown like death to make life more manageable and more 'meaningful' since we have attain a level of intelligence as individuals but as society it was 'under church's spells' to conform in a narrow range of thinking...perhaps for survival against like witch hunt perhaps? and security against would-be theives?...

but yeah saywhatkid said a good point here...and i liked it
