did he really golf for about 500 hours or close to it?

Bush and his pops may have had ~500 hours of family ranch BBQ's, Clinton had ~500 hours of escorts, Nixon probably put in ~500 hours for eavesdropping, Reagan probably did horseback riding.

Whoa!
Ronald Reagan's Rancho del Cielo | Virtual Tours | Grand Valley State University
During the eight years he was president, Ronald Reagan spent about 350 days -- almost 1/8th of his presidency -- at Rancho del Cielo. Photographer Steve Malone, right, took thousands of pictures of the first family when they were at the ranch. As a result of all this exposure to

Yet, seems like people are avoiding what Axelrod said about Bush as being ‘out of touch’ for playing golf in bad economy. If that's true wouldn't that be the same for Obama? After all Axelrod is the senior advisor to the president. If Bush playing 27 holes was really bad publicity wise during a bad economy then what makes Obama for his 100 rounds of golf during an even worse economy?

Not sure why you are dwelling on the past....But regardless, Link?

I don't think time at White House West equates to the golf. And if it does we have to add in Obama's vacation time too. But, the key difference here is the hypocrisy....IMO

Correct. Again......this is about golfing during a bad economy. Axelrod sums it up well, correct?

not sure why you're criticizing me... and then you want to dwell on it too. :dunno2:

Any proof of that claim?
Bush's golf claim angers veterans | World news | The Guardian
According to a database held by CBS News the statement is not entirely accurate. He did cut short a round of golf at the 12th hole on that day, but his last recorded game came two months later, October 13.

George Bush has angered US war veterans by declaring that out of solidarity with those who made the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq he decided to make his own sacrifice: giving up golf.

....

Brandon Friedman, a veteran US infantry officer who served in both Iraq and Afghanistan, told the Press Association: "Thousands of Americans have given up a lot more than golf for this war. For President Bush to imply that he somehow stands in solidarity with families of American soldiers by giving up golf is disgraceful. It's an insult to all Americans and a slap in the face to our troops' families."

Friedman, who is vice chairman of the US veterans' organisation VoteVets, added: "It shows how disconnected he is from everyday Americans, especially those who are serving in Iraq."

But Dallek, who is critical of the current president's legacy, said Bush's remarks about Iraq "speak to his shallowness." Dallek added: "That's his idea of sacrifice, to give up golf?"

Video captured Bush playing golf in 2002, 2003

Bush: "Now watch this drive." On August 4, 2002 -- several months after the United States began bombing Afghanistan -- Bush was filmed speaking to reporters on the golf course. Immediately after denouncing a suicide bombing in Israel, Bush said: "Now watch this drive," then took a swing.

Jeez, I never even knew he did this - this is saddening. The last comment takes the cake.

We agree. OK for GOP leaders to golf, hunt, travel; but not for Obama.

Maybe he was afraid for his life, exposed on the golf course during wartime. That might be his reason for taking a break. He had to spin it to make it appear he was doing the right thing. How is his handicap now?

can never forget his "now watch this drive" line.

I say it does present a bad image for both presidents to play golf in times when the economy is bad. How come Axelrod cannot say the same thing for Obama? By the same convention would playing golf be ok when soldiers are dying in the Afghanistan war, for example? Like when you have nearly 3 times as many soldiers killed in the Afghanistan war during Obama's administration compared to Bush. At least Bush had in mind to quit golfing but not Obama. Hypocrisy much?

Found the video. How did I miss this.
