Obama supporters?

I don't support denying anyone from the health insurance, nor do I support forcing everyone to support the health insurance, but I do support if people want the health insurance and to help others with the health insurance, it's just that it shouldn't have anything to do with the governments.

My POV from this also applies to the education issues. I don't support denying anyone from the education, nor do I support forcing them to receive some of education, but I do support them if they want their children to be educated.

My favorite quote: "We can't force people to be free!".

But that is not what Universal Health Care is about. It isn't about forcing people to purchase insurance. Its about making sure that everyone, from the elderly to poor children, so single parent families, to the disabled, etc, etc, have access to and are provided with health care no matter how much or little money they make.

My grandmother can barely get by on her meager income. She's 90. Since my grandfather died, we've stepped in more to help her with the burden but it's getting to a point where my own parents have to decide between heating oil and food and they have to raise a granddaughter on top of it.

I don't think people understand the situation enough. If you pay taxes, your money should cover not only the security of the country, but your health and well-being as well.

I agree. I think some are confused over the very defintion of a universal health care system. They don't seem to understand the the majority of people who don't have access to health care are not destitute enough to qualify for Medicaid, and don't make enough to meet basic expenses, let alone pay outrageous insurance premiums. I currently work 2 jobs and attend school full time. Neither job provides health insurance benefits, yet I make too much to qualify for Medicaid. To purchase health coverage on a self insured plan would cost me 350.00 a month. No way I can pay that kind of premium and still manage to have a roof over my head, food in my stomach, and utilities. And I am not a spend thrift. I am very frugal; shop for groceries at the cheapest place in town and use coupons, only eat meat 3 times a week, haven't purchased anything that wasn't on sale for at least 3 years, rarely eat a meal at a restaurant, and saved for nearly a year just to get my glasses changed. I haven't been to a doctor in 3 years. Can't afford it. I am supposed to be taking medication for a chronic illness I was diagnosed with 5 years ago, and haven't had the meds for 3 years. If symtpoms get bad, I make do with something over the counter in generic form that will at least take the edge off of the symptoms. Do I feel that I am denied the access to adequate health care, even though I work over 40 hours a week? Damn straight I do.

But you are already receiving a form of government supplied health care because you get Medicare/Medicaid. Not everyone qualifies for that benefit. Should they do without health care?

Well my point to those who don't want the insurance nor paying the health insurance at all. We can't really force them to join, can we?

I don't know where you're getting that from. I assume it's decades of brain-washing by the right-wing to make people think that universal healthcare is a Socialist thing and Socialist = bad to most people. It's really the opposite. Don't try telling that to most people.

It's like watching someone constantly complain about gas prices while filling up a SUV (which gets poor gas mileage).

People are stubborn. They resist change way too much. By doing so, it's allowed America to fall behind while Eastern countries (Russia, China, India) rise to the top. We're even well behind several European countries when it comes to quality of life, healthcare, birth rates, etc.

The way I see it, you can continue to be stubborn and cling to the old ways, even as you're hauled off to the dust bin of history, or you can embrace changes that will benefit not only you, but others as well.

Respectfully disagreed.

I knew a few members of my friend's family do not want it because they are quite heathy and fine. One is an elder, only 70-80's of the age, who has not many illnesses... :dunno:

Yeah, I got mine because I want it, while a few of members of my family don't have it because it's their choices... Same with my personal friend's too... :dunno:

We can't force people to receive health care if they choose not to. Under a universal system, everyone can receive health care if they so choose. Contributions are figured on a sliding scale according to income, so that everyone receives the same benefits no matter how much they pay in.

Let me ask you this: would you be willing to give up your Medicaid/Medicare coverage and go without health care?

I have health insurance through my current job that is much better than the health insurance I had at my old job, which would not cover blood tests for cholesterol and high blood pressure. I have bills lingering for the cost of those tests, plus a few other charges. When I went to my doctor back in June for a scheduled checkup on my asthma (or allergies..they're not sure), they rudely reminded me that I owe them money. I told them to fuck off and walked out. I still don't know if I have asthma or just plain allergies to dander, etc. I don't know when that bill is going to get paid, probably when I get a scholarship next month, which also allows me to pay living expenses as well as pay for books and lab fees.

I just feel that the health insurance we get through our jobs is utterly worthless. Why bother giving them money every week if they will not cover what you need? It's just retarded and proof that the healthcare industry cares more about profits than patients at times.

I can't qualify for Medicaid and I shouldn't even have to bother with it. With Universal Healthcare, there'd be no need for Medicaid or Medicare. It would cover folks who use both of those.

My original point being, if you are going to pay taxes, you should get something in return. Paying taxes in this country is like a bad investment sometimes. You pay, they get richer, we lose more soldiers in wars, etc.

Me so stubborn? I was just sharing my opinions and some of my questions here, so there's nothing I can be sort of stubborn nor being nosy around the debate threads. Respect my rights, thank you. Oh didn't we learn the Liberty! :eek3:

So I'd favor for me to be leave alone as Libertarian. :ty:

I'm not sure what you are disagreeing with.

Are you privately insured or do you receive Medicare/Medicaid?

Yeah, it's because they feel that they are reasonable with themselves, if they need the insurance or not. I am not sure if that's their POV about their insurance, but that's how I look at it.

Good, but is it fair for those who don't want the universe health benefit continue to pay for it?

Let me ask you this: would you be willing to give up your Medicaid/Medicare coverage and go without health care?

Sure if I was very rich and don't need any of government's craps! :D ;)

Yet some people, I know who, do not want it. I don't like to see what happen if it is a "requirement" for it. I am not sure what should I do when it comes up to my family... Besides, they are doing fine without health care.

I will ask them about it, yeah.

Everyone needs health care at some point in their life.

Good, but is it fair for those who don't want the universe health benefit continue to pay for it?

Is it fair for me to have taxes taken out of my check every 2 weeks to pay for Medicare/Medicaid benefits for someone else, and not be able to receive health care myself?

That's the whole point. You are willing for the government to step in and provide you with health care when you can't afford it. If you take advantage of being able to qualify for free health care from the government, how can you deny anyone else the right to the same?

Do not want what? Private insurance or Medicare? Anyone who works has Medicare contributions taken out of their paycheck as taxes, so they have already paid for it when they were working.
