Obama nominates Sotomayor to Supreme Court

Why do you say that Reba?

If Americans judged Obama for the color of his skin, he never would have been elected President -- or am I missing something?
The very fact that we are debating racism as part of the nomination process proves that "color" is still considered primary before character on both sides of the debate.

It would not be necessary to debate the issue if it weren't for people like Rush and Newt. MLK specifically used the word "judged". Quite different from discussing.

Discussing racial issues is hardly the same as judging competence based on racial issues. The first is a reality of life....the second is bigotry.

These are the same people who criticize Stotomayer's appointment due to the fact that she's Hispanic.

Who has objected to her based on her being an Hispanic?
No one conservative, however that card has been thrown by Obama and Sotomayor already. As during the last election it was thrown out there by Obama who stated that it shouldn't matter - but the very act of throwing it proves it does and is still a useful chip.

We will be replacing one liberal judge with another slightly more liberal judge.

conservatives and liberals both suck. We need a libertarian justice. I want to see medical marijuana legalized. And drug laws ruled unconstitutional.

I want to see medical marijuana legalized
The dregs of society have prevented medical use legalization for many substances that could be beneficial.

If the abusers could be cut out of the picture I could see it happening.

I agree. As long as there are drug abusers, there will always be laws to prohibit drug use.

Rush and Newt judged Sotomayor for her ethnicity? Do you mean they said she is not qualified just because she is Puerto Rican? Please document that for me.

CNN Political Ticker: All politics, all the time Blog Archive - Limbaugh slams Sotomayor: ‘Reverse racist’ - Blogs from CNN.com

"Calling Sotomayor a "racist" and a "hack" on his radio show Tuesday, Limbaugh took particular issue with a 2001 speech at Berkeley during which she stated a "wise Latina woman with the richness of her experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life."

"Here you have a racist – you might want to soften that, and you might want to say a reverse racist," Limbaugh said of that comment.

"And the [liberals] of course say that minorities cannot be racists because they don't have the power to implement their racism," he continued. "Well, those days are gone because reverse racists certainly do have the power to implement their power. Obama is the greatest living example of a reverse racist, and now he's appointed one."

Thank you for the links. I rarely listen to Rush so I'm not current on what he said.

None of those quotes say that Rush is opposed to Sotomayor's nomination on the basis of her Puerto Rican ancestry. He referred to her statements, not her ethnicity.

Did Rush or Newt say that Sotomayor is not qualified for Supreme Court Justice position because she is Puerto Rican?

Even Rush isn't stupid enough to slam on someone just because they are Hispanic... but just look at their reasons... "reverse racist" "She was only hired because she's Hispanic", etc, etc. um.. lame.

Exactly.
