not that its a bad thing but...

That cool idea! We should have hearie part, Deafie part!

Of course, when I stumbled across this a few years ago, I almost burst into tears.

Alldeaf. A place full of people like me.

And yet a select few made that difficult (you know what I mean.)

Did ya make the baklava yet ???!!!

I'm making it tomorrow! I have to buy a few items too. This is pretty advanced stuff for me. I'm going to be so bummed if it doesn't come out right. :Ohno:

But, because this is history in the making, I will be documenting the experience with my camera. Will post updates tomorrow in the Lunch thread! :)

Practice makes perfect.

(And of course, what doesn't come out right is just "extra fun yummies" for you to eat and not have to show anyone :giggle: )

I'm on Facebook, but I have a love/hate attitude towards it.

It intensified when someone posted... "I'm in bed now! Good night, Facebookers!"

What's next? "I've been on the can for the last two hours. Let this be a lesson; eat plenty of fiber!"

Sometimes, Facebook is the thing that should not be.

Maybe the lull on the forums has to do with the natural ebb and flow through out the year as people get busy doing stuff.

Medium Rare? What kinda cat are you?! I'll take mine blue, or rare if I must. ;)

@ Badger - Yes ... "it's the most very busy time of the year (out of tune- but no one can tell ;) ) with everyone cooking and vacations to booking..." (um... going to stop now)

Vbulletin has a capability for private forums but would that not defeat the very purpose this website was established for? "AllDeaf?"

We should not be 'chased' into some 'hidey space' on here just because the hearies seem to be registering as fast as rabbits mating.

Awww, if you guys get your own room - who am I going to play with?

This would be me:

Let's get the deafies on facebook/deaftv back first. Members from 2003-2009...
What made them go there?

I looked at our memberlist for lots of oldies who are gone...

You can stay with us, mbrek!

I don't feel included to comment here but I kind of have to so I apologize beforehand if this is not appropriate.

I apologize on the behalf of the rest of the ignorant world who come in post once and never post again. It is frustrating I understand. Just know that not all of us "hearing" people suck that badly :) I came here with the intentions of not only advice, I won't lie I am here 60% in hopes of some guidance as to what is going to help my sons, but also because I am truly fascinated with ASL , the community, the language, the lifestyle all of it. I think it is beautiful and never given enough credit.

I would never want to contribute to the hiding of anybody I have been here two days and am already really excited about the possiblities of friendships.

:wave:blondon

in kindness-

I appreciate your thought on it....one thing to be aware of is the degree to which people come in with "it's so beautiful"....ASL has all facets to it like languages do. Beauty is one of them. There many sign languages with their own aspects too.

"beautiful" may help a hearing child but doesn't help a deaf kid get equal access to language rights - lack of equity.....much more to it than an image....

:)

Take me with a grain of salt, if I say things that aren't, what's a good word??? acceptable. I am new here and just had a thought :) I am a hearing mother of deaf children so I don't really know anything. Kind of coming in to it. Just wanted to express my excitedness for being here.

If it's so bothersome to people to have "hearies" here with a connection to the d/Deaf community, why not see if Alex can create a forum called "OnlyDeaf.com" where only individuals who are DHH can participate. That would likely solve the issue. I think most of the "hearies" here (who stick it out) have a vested interest in the d/Deaf community.

Vested interest yes, actual understanding no. Is not necessarily bothersome (well....some are) is just...nice be able connect other people who actually GET IT. you know? Be nice have space where could discuss something withoutbhearies (even well meaning hearies) butting in.
