Man won't submit to security, TSA won't let him fly. Who's right?

:gpost:

That's why I have such high respect for women, not only are they a gift from God, but they are also a gift for children. Women should never be mistreated in any way, shape and form.

I like your idealism, but :ugh3: women and children can become a underwear bomber. It's unlikely that it would come from a domestic site, but still it's not really appropriate to completely dismiss the possibility that a woman or child can't carry out a terrorist attack.

this is really a moot point- TSA has a job to do. the terrorist also have a job to do. which do you want to cede your rights to?

neither and both. I don't think there should be option of pitting an exact win/lose of "civil liberties" on a gov't vs. terrorism debate. Terrorists might actually enjoy "more" civil liberties in countries/territories where they're appreciated by the local populace a lot more than your gov't. What are terrorists and government competing for? Political power? Are civil liberties not valued by both groups? Take the violence out of the equation and what do you get? Votes or at least an ability to accurately represent the desires of the population.

Also, you could be an anarchist and believe you don't have to submit to either group for your liberties.

They are the ruling elite.

Exactly how, physically, do Congressmen/women by-pass this? Is there a separate door for them? Who else besides Congress people are accorded this exception? I find it hard to believe this is happening.

It doesn't happen if they are flying commercial. They are just like anyone else.

Regarding the Backscatter X-Ray Machines when using it on children...

Federal Statues on Child Pornography....

* 18 USC § 2251 Production of child pornography (mandatory min. 15 yrs; max 30 years)

* 18 USC § 2252 Possession, distribution and receipt of child pornography (mandatory min 5 yrs for distribution or receipt; max 20 years)

* 18 USC § 2252A Possession, distribution and receipt of child pornography (mandatory min 5 yrs for distribution or receipt; max 20 years)

TSA Broadens Use of 'Backscatter X-Ray' Machines That Conduct 'Virtual Strip Searches': The Transportation Security Administration is expanding the use of "backscatter X-ray" systems for passenger screening. The $100,000 refrigerator-size machines use "backscatter" technology, which bounces low-radiation X-rays off of a passenger to produce photo-quality images of travelers as if they were undressed. Computer processing partially obscures the image that is available to operators. TSA states that the agency will delete the raw images, but there is no law or regulation that prevents the agency from saving the original, detailed images. Until there is such a prohibition, EPIC believes funding for the program should be suspended. See EPIC's Spotlight on Surveillance and page on Backscatter X-ray. (October 11, 2007)

What if we had no air security checks?
ask yourself how you would feel if you lived in a country like this:

You can walk into any airport, with or without a ticket, and wander unimpeded right up to a boarding gate. You don't have to surreptitiously slip past a security checkpoint, because there are no security checkpoints.

If you don't have a driver's license or a photo ID card with you, that doesn't matter; no one will request to see one.

If you are carrying a loaded gun in your pocket or underneath your jacket, no one will know. In fact, if you do have a valid ticket, there will be nothing to prevent you from boarding a flight while armed to the teeth with concealed weaponry.

The atmosphere at the airport is as free-and-easy as in a public park. The official assumption is that the people around you pose no threat; from the moment you walk through the front doors of the airport until the moment you step onto the plane, not a soul will stop you or ask you a question.

Would you feel safe? Would you want to live in such a country?

You did, if you were a citizen of the United States before the 1970s.

I remember those days. I started flying in 1966.

oh wow - curious... how did you like it? "atmosphere-wise"... and what were your thought about series of hijackings at that time?
