Man won't submit to security, TSA won't let him fly. Who's right?

^ those are questions that spawned off that I was thinking about...no need to be answered...just curious...

What jobs do you have mind?

For many, understanding the risk of flying is part of the gig. Just like me getting to work by driving my own vehicle.

1. Is it company policy that absolutely requires flight as the mode of transportation? ...in other words, it's part of a contract somewhere where it's stated that there are no alternatives whatsoever...and without time constraint penalties for declining to fly...

2. Or does the employee have the option of declining to use that transportation because A) they refuse to be scanned AND B) they refuse to be patted down?

3. Can their union/attorney defend them from utilizing this requirement?

The company only pays for traveling expense. How you travel to location A is up to you and they will pay for it.

at my work - my colleague is fearful of flying so she took train to Chicago for conference. My work paid for it. I flew. My work paid for it too.

Ok Now TSA says they can photocopy your credit cards and other documents before they allow you to board a plane.

If they did that to me, I'd cancel my credit cards in a heartbeat....

and why do you suppose they would use your credit card illegally? do you think they would risk going to jail over this?

you should leave your credit card account opened and wait till they used your card illegally. that way - you get to tell the world that TSA is a thieving scumbag.

For what purpose do they need to photocopy credit cards? There is no transaction.

I got lucky that I didn't have to go through the scanner in Boston Logan airport. I was able to go through the regular metal detector. xD

And the TSA never asked to see my credit cards or anything like that besides passports, etc.

further proof of identification. I forgot my driver license but when I was at Newark Airport (and San Fransciso Airport and Denver Airport and Ontario Airport)... they accepted photo ID (my work ID card) and credit card. Credit Card is absolutely required as part of ID verification.

For airports?

Sounds a little sketchy because credit cards are primarily for financial transactions, not ID. None of my cards have my picture on them.

it's not just picture. it's to further verify your other ID card w/ photo since CC has a name on it. NJ DMV does this procedure too - http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/pdf/Licenses/ident_ver_posterpint.pdf (2nd page)

If I didn't have my work ID card with me, they would not have let me thru the gate. whew!
