Law Allowing Guns in Restaurants Takes Effect Wednesday

and that's precisely what separates CCW holders from those people who call 911 for chicken nuggets problem.

Again - got any news showing CCW holder firing gun into crowded restaurant? And then compare that number of incidents to the number of incidents where thugs (with illegal firearms) fired into crowded restaurants.

Haven't searched for any. But are you saying that all individuals with ccw's are responsible and immune to developing a mental disorder after their permit was issued?

exactly why I said in my post #7 - "[any bad news about gun shootings like drug war, robbery, etc.] It's reported in news on nearly daily basis. Because of that - it breeds extreme anti-gun sentimentalism.... just as bad as Jaw movie caused mass shark killing over unfounded fear."

Why is it that there are HARDLY any news about gun saving lives?

Example below -

I have tons tons of more stories about CCW saving lives but..... it's not reported on national news, only victims killed by guns........... by thugs.

Please post here. I'd love to see those "tons of stories."

you should know there is no such thing as "all" as in 100%... like ALL police officers are responsible and immune to developing mental disorder after employed. Like I said - the incidents of such cases is extremely extremely extremely small compared to incidents by armed thugs.

The Miami Herald - Miami, FL 3/25/09
Police say a robber wearing a ski mask decided to target a busy Burger King restaurant just before the dinner hour. The robber demanded money and flashed a gun wildly, endangering the lives of the man patrons and employees around him. One customer, John Landers, had seen enough. Landers told the 18-year-old robber to lower his gun and stop pointing it at people. The robber responded by shooting Landers several times. It was a mistake he'd quickly regret. Landers, a concealed-carry permit holder, drew his handgun and shot the robber, killing him. At press time, Landers was in the hospitals recovering from injuries. Poliec say his actions may have saved a number of lives.

A frequent customer at a convenience store noticed a man looking around the store as if casing it. Suspicious, he decided to go to his vehicle and call for help. "As soon as I touched my cell phone, I heard [the store clerk] screaming, 'Help, help, help!" the customer explained. The 5-foot-4 man grabbed his Smith & Wesson .40 caliber pistol from the vehicle and bravely ran back inside the store. Survellience video shows the suspect hitting the female clerk with a beer bottle and wrestling her to the ground. The customer fired two shots, killing the suspect. Police found a knife and a wad of cash on the attacker.

Arizona Daily Star - Tucson, AR 4/24/09
Police say a 26-year-old man was filling a prescription at a pharmacy's drive-through window when two women approached his car. One of the women pulled a gun and tried to pull the trigger. For some reason, the woman's gun would not fire, but the man had a gun of his own - and unlike his assailant's, it was legally possessed and fully functional. He drew his firearm and fired two shots, causing the woman to fall to the ground. The man disarmed his assailant and phoned police, who will charge the woman after her release from the hospital

St. Petersburg Times - St. Petersburg, FL 5/15/09
Adriana Sauceda was touching up her makeup before work when she glanced in her car's side-view mirror and caught a man staring at her. As the man approached, the terrified Sauceda scrambled to lock the doors and raise the windows. But it was too late. Police say the man opened the driver's side door and pointed a gun at Sauceda, shouting, "Get the fuck out!" Instead, Sauceda punched him in the faace and drew her gun from the glove box. The would-be carjacker screamed and fled to a getaway car. Sauceda had purchased a firearm and obtained a concealed-carry permit after she was robbed previously.

Ten college students were enjoying a birthday party at an off-campus apartment when two armed men burst through the door. Poliec say the intruders separated the men from the women and demanded their cell phones and money. That's when one of the male students took action, drawing his gun from a backpack and shooting at the suspect guarding the men. That suspect fled the apartment. The student then hurried to the women, where he found the second suspect about to commit a rape. He yelled for the girls to get down and fired several shots at the suspect, who jumped out of the window and died nearby. "Apparently, [the dead suspect's] intent was to rape and murder us all," said student Charles Baily, "I think all of us are really cognizant of the fact that we could have all been killed."

Azle News - Azle, TX 5/07/09
Four accused shoplifters were fleeing a grocery store when a shopper got in their way. Police say they'd stolen groceries worth less than $50, but were apparently willing to kill for it. The driver pointed the thieves' truck directly at the shopper and floored the gas pedal. Fortunately, the shopper, who has a concealed-carry permit, drew a handgun, shot out the truck's front tire and leapt from its oncoming path. Another shopper called 911 to report "an undercover officer shooting at someone who tried to run him down," The "officer" was determined to be the armed shopper, who proceeded to follow the vehicle until the flat tire disabled it. Thanks to his help all four men were arrested.

The Saginaw News - Saginaw, MI 1/23/09
Richard Creed had just finished helping a customer at his insurance agency when two men burst in wearing masks and carrying pistols. Polie say the intruders forced Creed to an office in the rear of the store, which, unbeknownst to them, was where he stored a revolver. Creed kept his cool as they neared his gun. "It was none of the flashy lights," he explained. "It was, 'If you're gonna live, this is what you gotta do,' and you think about it real fast. It was pretty clear-headed." Creed grabbed his revolver and shot one of the men several times, causing both assailants to run. Police apprehended the suspects and discovered that their pistols were realistic toys.

Arkansas Democrat-Gazette - Lowell, AK 3/25/09
John Antonetz and his wife, Lydia Pace-Antonetz, were loading groceries into their vehicle in a Wal-Mart parking lot when, police say, a man wearing a disguise announced a robbery. The couple tried to run from the robber, but he struck Pace-Antonetz, grabbed her purse and pointed a gun at the couple. That's when Antonetz, a 63-year-old dentist with a concealed-carry permit, retrieved his .357-caliber revolver from the vehicle. As the suspect continued threatening his wife, Antonetz rounded the vehicle and fired several shots. The suspect, who was on parole for a burglary conviction, was arrested by the police when he sought treatment for a gunshot wound at a local hospital.

The Pocono Record - Stroudsburg, PA 3/20/09
Coincidentally, another act by armed citizenry took place in a Wal-Mart parking lot in March. In that incident, police say 28-year-old Joshua Eastman was loading groceries into his vehicle when a teenage thug pointed a gun at him and demanded cash. The quick-thinking Eastman opened the door to his vehicle to form a barrier between himself and the suspect. The clever act may have saved his life. The suspect fired a shot through the door's window, which narrowly missed Eastman but propelled glass shards into his face. Eastman, a concealed-carry permit holder, drew his .32-caliber handgun, dropped below the door and shot his assailant three times. The suspect fled, but the police located him nearby.

and many more......... In return - please do show me stories of what you're concerned about :)

Police: Beach pizza parlor owner kills would-be robber

04:40 PM EDT on Monday, June 30, 2008

By 13News

From Hampton Police Dept.

VIRGINIA BEACH --- Police say a Hampton man was killed when he tried to rob a pizza parlor Saturday night.

Workers at Dominick's Pizza and Pasta in the Timberlake Shopping Center on Holland Road told 13News a masked man came in through a back entrance brandishing a gun and demanding cash around 10:00 p.m. Saturday.

According to the store owner, he opened the safe and took out a loaded revolver instead of money, returned to the suspect and opened fire.

By the time officers arrived, they say Johnny Marocco Williams was already dead.

There are currently no charges against the storeowner. Williams, 41, is from Hampton.

On Monday, the neon sign at Dominick's flickers "open for business."

The owner says he shot in self-defense.

He also says he's glad everything's okay at the store, but he is still shaken about taking a life.

Customer Josh White understands why the owner took the action.

"Anybody would have done the same thing to protect a young woman and yourself," he said.

Would-Be Burglar Stopped By Homeowner
Thursday, 24 September 2009 09:04
A Lexington man is behind bars after police say he tried to break into the wrong home overnight.

A man says he was taking a shower early this morning at his home on West Fourth Street, when he heard something just outside his house.

He told police he went around to check it out, and saw a man trying to break in through a window. That's when the homeowner grabbed a gun and held the would-be burglar at gunpoint, while he called 9-1-1.

Police later caught up with and arrested Donovan Campbell. He's now in jail, charged with burglary.

That homeowner runs a business out of his home, and he says he was tired of being broken into, so he decided to put a stop to it.

I have posted numerous stories and statistics prior that relate to the number of accidental deaths caused by legal gun ownership. As well as the dangers of vigilanteism.

I remind you - the specific topic in here is about the CCW permit holders at public place. Basically all of your stories regarding accidental deaths happened at home. as for vigilantism... again - it happened at home. All of my stories are about CCW permit holders (or armed citizens) at public place saving lives.

good luck finding CCW-related stories that support your concern.

It wasn't legal gun ownership that caused the deaths. It was carelessness, incorrect handling or storage, or unauthorized use that caused the deaths.

Just like legal car ownership doesn't cause accidents. Accidents are caused by carelessness, recklessness, or unauthorized use, not ownership.

exactly.

Its a retarded attempt to turn the screw tighter on gun rights. Its like... ok I cant bring a 9mm inside a bar so whats stopping someone from shooting them in the parking lot?... which is what normally what happens in that kind of crime situation anyway....

What? Accidental shooting can't occur in a public place? I can remember specifically, off the top of my head, a story about a child that was killed by an automatic weapon on a shooting range. That is certainly a public place, and one that should be safer, weapon wise, than a restaurant.

Can't have ownership without an owner. Owners, obviously, are not always responsible.

still nothing related to CCW. accident happens... even at firing range or wrestling match. that's why we sign disclaimer form, acknowledging the risk of it.

So, then my post was related, as an accidental death from a CCW is possible in a public place.

yes. and that's precisely what separates those irresponsible owners from responsible CCW holders.... equivalent to regular drivers and racing driver. The racing driver is better trained and more responsible.... just like CCW holders.

CCW does not carry a responsibility license with it. An irresponsible person can just as easily be irresponsible as responsible. There is no criteria for responsibility that is tested for prior to issuing a CCW.

possible yes but it's expected. but does it warrant ban? absolutely not. Police Officers' accidental shootings (or discharged) happened quite more than CCW accidental shootings. By your logic - does that mean we should take away guns from officers and give them baton & whistle?

I'm not promoting a ban. I am questioning the logic of allowing guns into an establishment that is generally crowded with people, many of whom will be drinking alcohol.

actually yes there is. We're required to take course and training. CCW is a serious responsibility. Like I said - you can EASILY get screwed because of picky laws. Again - any articles to support your argument?

Don't think obtaining CCW is as easy as obtaining driver license. It doesn't work like that and thanks God for that. I'm much more concerned about teen/distracted drivers than CCW holders at bar or McDonald.
