Gas Prices can go down even futher if Russia expands oil.

Spending a lot on gas to commute just for two hours of work. That possibly would cost same as you would earn two hours of working. That doesn't making any sense.
So, I should just tell my Deaf clients, "Sorry, you live too far away for interpreting services"?

I don't think so.

p.s.

I hate to tell you this but some of my colleagues also fly to their assignments.

I would suggest you to pay the visit to La Pine, Oregon and learn their successful story about bus system in really small and rural town. Also you can learn about Washignton's small towns in really rural areas. You will be surprised it can do well in midwest towns too if you guys are willing to give it a try.

Oh really, there's bus route that pass in small town in San Bernardino and Riverside countries.

How many times a day? That is my point, it is not always fit everybody's schedule, especially somebody like Reba!

You need fix the quote to anyone, I'm quoted to metroguy03.

It's all day, 24 hours of service.

La Pine, OR, is a huge city compared to rural towns in South Carolina.

We have many towns with fewer than 1,000 people. We even have many towns with less than 100 people! And yes, Deaf people live in some of those towns. I know one family that travels three hours by train for doctor visits. If they can do that, I certainly can drive to them when needed.

I don't drive that far every day, just occasionally.

I am aware that there isn't many terps in the Carolinas. That is why you need to drive around alot.

well here in my town.. there's only a bus route 2 times a day in 24 hour period.. how many of you think this will fit for a person who needs something?

store is about 15 miles away to shop for food, clothes, etc.... if the bus route times are 8 am and 2nd one is 4 pm... who wants to stay in grocery store from 8 am to 4 pm finally got home? heck that's not for me.

the town i live in ia 1,000 people.. and the closest town which is 15 miles is 5,000 people there. and the twin cities is 50 miles away.. and the bus doesn't take people to twin cities.

this won't work at all for the mid-west states like where i live.

Exactly, you got my point acrossed. This is America, not Europe.

Wait a minute....did I just heard someone said gas price need to go up more or $16.25 per gallon? Are you out of your mind? I live in friggin' country. I drive a truck with V8. I do carry a lot of cargo. I love my truck. Gas is good for heavy load truck.

I'm pretty much with Diehardbiker and DeafSCUBA98.

You do not need because they pay your mileages, waiting time, gasoline, and plus interpret cost. Right?

I am surprised that they can afford to pay interpreters to fly... wow... I would LOVE to jump if they pay me to fly over other state to interpret and then go back home or overnight at Hotel (only if they pay me... ):fingersx:

Stalin's Arctic mines help expansion - Yahoo! News

Russia can expand those pipelines to Canada,China and Europe to help oil prices and OPEC would be in trouble if we dont buy from them buy from Russia instead. See Russia is willing to drill in Arctic evoinmental areas in their country.Meanwhile the Liberal Democrats refuse to allow oil drilling in ANWR. Lets Sell Alaska back to the russians for 500 Billion dollars and then Liberals have no control and then russia can build a pipeline though canada into the USA from alaska. And that would bring oil prices down. The sale from russia would get our debt down some.

wait a minute, were you saying that you're willing to imbue our trust in russia to deflate debt? right.

sell alaska to the russians? are you on crack? it's political suicide to put it on the table. if we, republicans, do that, we'll never take a control of congress for a hundred year. or longer. that logic of yours would probably work in video game like hearts of iron 2 but not in this reality.

Nope, most interpreters I know is freelance! Freelance means they are at their own, and they pay expenses themselves.

Why those interpreter tends to be freelance? Simple put, not many can do 8 hours interpreting all day, otherwise their hand will stuck in carpel tunnel!

That is what I mean, too many people in America lives out in country, I would love to live in country, and if I find right house, right property and right location and DECENT water supply then I'd move there.

Some. I get paid for the two hours interpreting, not the four hours driving, and I get mileage for the long trips. However, that mileage is a flat rate, and if the price of gas goes up, I don't get more for my gas expenses. Many of my local jobs (less than 50 miles) don't pay any mileage.

I am surprised that they can afford to pay interpreters to fly...
They do what is necessary to meet the clients' needs.

It's not a pleasure trip. Terps get called in the morning, telling them to be in another place that afternoon. They have to make arrangements for their kids and dogs, quickly pack, and drive to the airport. They arrive home late at night, exhausted.

Most of us love our work and clients but we hate the travel and commuting.

Yeah, the joys of no benefits, no insurance, no retirement plan, no paid vacations, no sick leave.

I do a combination of freelance, agency, barter, and volunteer interpreting.

Why those interpreter tends to be freelance? Simple put, not many can do 8 hours interpreting all day, otherwise their hand will stuck in carpel tunnel!
It's also a mental and emotional drain.

Physically, there have been days when my hands spasm and cramp from overuse, and my neck, butt, and back hurt from too much standing or sitting in one position.

I'm not complaining; that's just life. :)

Not always, many interpreters got position at public school like my interpreter is full-time and she was interpeting to me until end of my senior, I know that she's changed into different middle and high school that under LA school, salaries are good as well.

No, it has nothing with America, it's cities or counties that doesn't focus or care of public transportation, there's mixed of cities and town offers full service of public transportation, if you complain about it then Rotty must have horrible public transportation.

I want gas price to increase more than $8, that will make USA to get more attention, such as quickly to invent the alternative fuel, it doesn't waste of our time.

You are true environment killer, that's not cool.

I hate SUV and V6-V8 truck.

Ugh, that's not good move, plus there's some town that has lousy bus service, such as limited time.

If it's bad then I will rather to get economy or hybrid car.

With that, ordering a pizza might cost you $40 dollars for just a pie!
