doctors cannot ask about guns

Then look for one.

I have several more...

Statistics Top 10 - Causes of Death Kids
Childstats.gov - America's Children: Key National Indicators of Well-Being, 2009 - Physical Environment and Safety
Child Passenger Safety: Fact Sheet - NCIPC
National Child Mortality Data
MVSR Births and Deaths, 1995 -- Table 16

Can you show me with overwhelming source that gun is a serious leading cause of death/injury for children because based on what I'm seeing.... gun cause is a peanut compared to other culprits.

As I very clearly stated before, they are licensed and certified to discuss issues regarding childhood safety issues.

So...you think someone needs to be certified from the NRA to say, "If you have a gun in your home, make sure it is stored out of reach of children and keep the safety on." Or to provide the statistical numbers for children killed every year by a gun in the home? You really think that requires additional certification besides an M.D. and board certification in pediatrics?

actually yes - NRA Range Safety Officer Program

And I can assure you that gun safety course is definitely not something you can talk about in just 5 minutes. I believe doctor's time is better spent on medical issue... something that she/he is qualified with.. and it's best to leave a gun safety issue to somebody more qualified like police officer.

We have programs all over NJ once a year or so where police officers will gladly help you with child restraint seat fitting and information since traffic accident is one of the top culprits.

#1 Affirms what has already been said regarding cancer and auto accident. Also, when you take a close look at the stats, affirms the guns are the most PREVENTABLE cause.

#2 Numbers are irrelevent. Includes only infor regarding ER visits, which include many reasons other than death or serious injury.

#3 Re: prevention of vehicle injuries...not relevent.

#4 You have to do some math here because of the way the numbers are reported. but if you take the time to do the math, you will see that they coincide with AAP numbers.

We are not talking about firing a gun safely, Jiro. We are talking about keeping them out of the hands of children.

in other word..... your agenda is misguided....

No in other words, you links are useless for trying to show what you intend to show. Plus seriously outdated. Try again.

Please do feel free to show me links that back your claim. To not do so - I'll just simply automatically assume that your agenda is misguided with baseless claim just like Brady Campaign.

Love what they keep coming up because I enjoy seeing their fantasy bubble bursting! :cool2:

um.... that's not only thing they covered.

They do cover this subject as well - NRA - Safety Information for Parents

And parents have to seek out an NRA certified instructor and make an effort to get to the class and to pay for it.

It isn't the parents that KNOW they need safety instruction that cause concern. It is the ones that don't have a clue. Those are the ones pediatricians need to reach.

no need to - there are local police officers to help you, silly. :giggle:

and they can help you with child restraint seats as well :)

so refer them to a qualified person.... like a police officer.

Already showed you in above post. Listed by number exactly what was wrong with the links you were using and why they were not relevent to the topic.

Hey, how about that 5 year old that took a gun to pre-school in Fla last week? Guess her pediatrician was afraid to talk to her parents, huh? A five year old shows up with a gun and the lawmakers in the same state want to prevent talks about gun safety with parents. Yeah, that makes sense.

I'm having a hard time to see any correlation between pediatricians and decrease in gun-related incidents.

and... this is just 1 case so far? :dunno: Wonder how many suffer from child abuse or death killed by their parents' hands, not guns.

Yeah, I know you are having a hard time seeing the correlation. That much has been obvious throughout this thread.

No, this is just the most recent case.

Infanticide is a relatively small amount of deaths.

Asking and informing are two different things.

Do the doctors ask about every possible potential safety hazard and unhealthy habit? Do they ask if the kid lives in a dangerous neighborhood, or how many men sleep with their mama?

I am sorry but I bust out :laugh2:

I can imagine the look on the patient's face when asked that.

Do doctors ask kids if their parents leave household cleaners in their reach?

Is the kid a patient or a snitch? Is the kid even a reliable reporter of what is in the family home? Maybe he doesn't know what the parents have, or maybe he thinks he'll get them in trouble.

Do you really believe a doctor's question will prevent children from being killed by their parents' guns?

My son's doctor does ask me if he wears seatbelt when in a moving vehicle. I dont see the harm with the questions. :dunno:

I am much much more concerned with abusive parents than stupid parents with guns. Don't you agree that majority of incidents are because of abusive parents?

the difference is... you won't get a mark in your file if you said yes or no. but you will get a mark in file for gun possession. That concerns me.

Stop squatting over nothing.

sorry but I don't think abuse cases are "nothing". I have a big problem with them. Always get me riled up whenever I hear abuse cases. But gun-related cases? It's rare compared to abuse cases.

Gosh, you really have went off the course big time.
