Cochlear recalls Nucleus CI500

it doesn't matter. You've already clarified your question and my answer is yes.
Oh.. come on... You said "What's that?" because you claimed that "there are sooo many things it could mean", and now you cannot think of any...
Please...

You expect me to automatically understand whatever you said???

Why so fixated on this? well I'm sorry you got embarrassed that you were wrong when I said yes to your question. Now move on.

LOL.. You have a way with words.... And you were the one that said you shouldn't assume...
You should try to live by your own standards...
Sorry you got embarrassed when you didn't know what "conversation between rooms" meant and needed time to figure it out...
Now move on.

that's why I asked you for clarification and you answered it for me and pushed me aside. What's up with that???

I cannot believe this amount of drama and difficulty... mein gott....

I can have a conversation with a friend who is standing on the other side of a glass window... can you? and understand all of it? I can have a conversation while I am in the kitchen and my SO is in the bedroom (yes I can see her... but still) so those are different rooms... so it could mean that...
Yeh, I love that.
I use it with my wife somtimes... Across shops, parking areas. During a meeting.. It's great... very nice...
Asking her if she wants a cup of coffee using sign... Love it..

I mean I can have a full on conversation... not just asking if someone wants some coffee... hearies can't do that using voice... sign is not limiting... it is empowering for the Deaf!

And you seriously think ASL would do her much good in Africa?

I've actually lived in Africa (and started using HAs when I lived there). I was able to buy batteries as needed.

I'm sure if Lotte ever travels to Africa, she will bring with her the appropriate chargers. And guess what, they even have generators there, so even if the electricity does fail, it's likely she could plug in somewhere.

If Lotte is getting, along with her CIs, the ability to read and write in two (or three?) languages, she'll do fine. Even if she wants to go to Africa some day.

That has got to be the most far-fetched argument I've ever seen regarding not wanting CIs.

Who is saying "No to CIs?"

We want kids to have ASL!

The Milan Conference was a disgrace...
But.. "nothing changed"?
HAs allowed deaf people to hear, and after a lot of protests from Deaf culture.. many use them.
CI allow deaf people to hear that cannot hear with a HA, and after a lot of protests from Deaf culture..

Are you that clueless?

This is about denying deaf children the opportunities to learn ASL and interact with the Deaf community.

So just to clarify and understand your position. You don't find it necessary or important to be proficient in English?

If that's the case, that makes sense why you don't align with the use of SEE to help DHH students acquire English.

I have a student whose first language is ASL and he is proficient with 4th grade English at 3rd grade. ASL did not interfere with his ability to master English. He had no SEE.

Some of the kids who have transferred to our program with literacy deficits were in SEE programs. It is NOT a language. It is a teaching tool, that's it.

Something like over 90% of deaf children are born to hearing parents. The question is whether or not they take the time to understand their Childs individual needs and act accordingly. I'd say a good majority of parents of deaf children here have taken the time to educate themselves about their childs needs as an an individual.

My mom thought she did.

My needs were not met.

I suffered.

BIG time.

It all comes back to the same age-old question. If we can't hear enough, can we function?

Wow, I must be supernatural in that I can breathe, eat, sleep, work, drive a car, have family, friends, text, surf the internet. Same as ANYBODY else. My deafness has never stopped me from doing anything I want to do. NOTHING.

WOOOTTT!!!!!

U tell them girl!

So f****** obsessed with "hearing".

:barf:

that's fine. I guess that's how it is in Norway but majority of us are in America. Do you at least understand our side?

Maybe in Norway, the deaf people are put into mental instituions hence Cloggy's fear?

Yes.... And even more with Spanish... Simple Truth..

I'm sorry, but there's no reason why we would force her to spend time on a language that she can hardly practice in her "world"....
She would benefit more from Turkish, since there are Turkish kids at school. Or Chinese so she can speak to her classmate in his language. Or some African language so she can speak with the Somali kids, or Kenian kid....

For the turiksh kid, for the chinese kid, for the somali kids, for the kenian kid, for the dutch people, for the norweigans...
Wow... That is a lot of "For the other people" not for the child.

Nothing new...

the deaf child has to adjust to meet the hearing kids' needs.

Nothing about the hearing kids having to adjust to meet the deaf child's needs.

The story of my and many others' lives.

OK.. go back, read it again, and then make a post that's relevant...

I didn't know that the success of a 9-year old deaf girl can be so intimidating for you (and many others)...
Sorry that she can meet the hearing kids' needs.

How about being happy that Lotte and her peers will not grow up like you..???

How do you know for a fact that will happen?

Shel: My mom thought she did, My needs were not met, I suffered, BIG time.
Lotte: Her mom thought she does, Her needs are met, she's happy, BIG time.

Let's not get personal but theres a different perspective:

AT 7 years old:

Shel: Her mom thought she does, Her needs are met, she's happy, BIG time.
