CI--Deaf or Hearing?

The Deaf are speaking, GrendelQ. Are you listening?

And I am not here as a spokesperson or an advocate, or in any other professional capacity. I am here, standing with, and speaking with, people who I count as my friends.

That is the difference. You have an agenda to fulfill. I don't; unless you can call supporting my friends an agenda.

Before getting my Phonaks, yes, this was always a problem. With the Phonaks, not so much. Depending on type of hat a little bit, but as long as there was some air space immediately above the mics, I had no problem with feedback.

I have trouble with bandanas. Like to wear them for jeep/motorcycle rides because I have long hair, but boy do they make a ton of feedback.

I don't see Grendel as having any agenda, except to open up dialogue and share their family's experience with their journey.

I am a speaking deaffie, but I do appreciate what Jillio has to say as well as others. I sometimes have problems putting into words what I want to get across, so I don't respond as much as I want. Some days, I can get on a never ending soapbox for what I believe in. Other times, I will lose the words in the middle of a post, but I will post it anyway.

no it isn't. There are plenty of well informed hard core AV families. They just disagree with HOW to provide the language. The language goals are the same.

" Hard coreAV" and "well informed" are diametrically opposed. You will not find the same thing in one person.

you couldn't be more wrong. I don't agree with them, but they have plenty to back up their position.

Wow. In the time I've been reading this forum (over a year at this point), not once have I ever seen anyone make that remark. I've seen people twist words into something they were never intended but that is different. I don't think anyone who takes the time to participate in this forum think the d/Deaf are uneducated.

Somebody told me just last week that I can't write correctly because of this.

Obviously they were ignorant, and probably trying to incite a reaction from others. Your posts are always very clear, and witty.

Thanks. I was more taken aback and not hurt.

Apparently, the agenda is to tell Deaf people that they're wrong and claim that the Deaf people are bullied into saying things that ya'll don't want to hear.
None of this is skin off my nose because me and my kids go deaf as adults so that we make our own decisions. I simply feel empathy for the deaf adults who did not have that option when they went/were deaf. I care about my friends. I don't give a shit what hearing people think. Just be forewarned that I'll be meeting some deaf kids in the near future that will be joining the Deaf. It's only natural for people to seek out similarly situated people.

Nothing valid or reliable from the Deaf perspective or based on the cognitive and psychological needs of the deaf child.
