CI--Deaf or Hearing?

I'm not talking about turning the tables on hearing people. There are a whole lot of d/Deaf who are being drowned out here by a small number of posters insisting upon conformity to one position, when there are several that can be employed towards common values.

A whole lot of d/Deaf being drowned here by a few posters? I haven't seen that at all.

Care to provide a few examples? I mean if you're talking about people like drphil, sailerboy and google being drowned out by the Deaf, well yeah, they deserved it for their belligerent condescending rude attitudes but asides from that, I haven't seen a "whole lot" of d/Deaf being drowned out by the few.

Just in case you, faire jour (and by the way I do understand french and keep wanting to write faire du jour which is correct) and CSign havent noticed, far more d/Deaf support jillio and liked her posts than they have any of yours. Take a hint.

Who's doing the supressing?

Those who drown out the diversity of opinions on this forum, insisting all must conform to groupthink are suppressing others -- I'm talking about a Hearing suppression of d/Deaf -- and you can take all the hearing parents of deaf kids with CIs out of the equation (we're down to 2 people now, right?, so not much of an impact anyway?), it would still be happening.

I am now going to totally derail this thread and it's your fault! :)

I just remembered - I can never wear winter hats because they make my hearing aids feedback like crazy. have always wondered if that's the same for others.

Before getting my Phonaks, yes, this was always a problem. With the Phonaks, not so much. Depending on type of hat a little bit, but as long as there was some air space immediately above the mics, I had no problem with feedback.

If the deaf/Deaf feel they are being drowned out, they will speak up and say so. I don't know why some people seem to believe the Deaf can't speak up for themselves if they object to something.

Diversity of opinion is not being drowned out. You, FJ, and SEESign all have the opportunity to say whatever you choose. Nothing is being drowned out.

What is happening is that audism is being exposed to the light of day. Posts are not being ignored or drowned out. The audist attitude in those posts is being corrected and called what it is.

How many times does a Deaf person have to tell you: they do not feel they are being supressed by one Hearing person. However, they do feel they are being insulted and discounted by a few hearing people that spout audist beliefs and come in here telling them how they should react to something. You are making the assumption that the Deaf are dissatisfied, just because you are. That is not the case.

I am a Deaf militant because I KNOW what an oral-only approach does to a child's self-esteem. I am not referring to you, mind you. I am not the only one who KNOWS. Really KNOW. We have been through it and are trying to shout into the wind.

Unfortunately when we speak up, we get discounted. Jillio doesn't get discounted but she does get plenty of flak for not agreeing with the hearing parents.

I see you beat me to it. :D

Let's just take this thread. I think you'll find quite a few outriders to the "consensus" that was pushed in several cases. Do you think Beowulf deserved it? Do you think Cheetah deserved it? Quite a few others who didn't exactly fall in line, but whose voices were pretty well quashed by the bleating. There is no one d/Deaf voice. And no need for a hearing spokesperson to define what the d/Deaf opinion is.

Sad, thats true. But i m glad that jillio does not mind and it gives me more energy so i can focus on reality, out real world by educating those people on a daily basis.

What's the consensus exactly?

jillio is not defining, she's echo-ing what we're saying. You just don't like that very much but rather take it out on her, a hearing person, than on us, deaf people because you don't want to seem anti-deaf.

Beowulf and Cheetah were not treated badly in this thread at all. That was just the perception of one confused hearing parent who missed the intent and purpose of what was being said.
And again, Beowulf and Cheetah are vary capable and articulate. They can speak for themselves. If they feel they are being treated unfairly, they will speak up.

I don't define what the Deaf opinion is. I repeat what the Deaf opinion is. They define it for themselves.

Again, how is it that you will come in here and tell the Deaf what they need, and then claim that you don't have an audist bone in your body? The implication that the Deaf cannot decide for themselves, or that they are incapable of making a decision regarding what they support and what they don't support is oozing from your posts.

Seriously. Let go of your grudge. Trying to defend it is really doing your reputation here more harm than good.

Read your own posts, and consider what you are saying. You are only looking more and more audist the more you say.

That "hearing spokesperson" is amply qualified to speak on my behalf. She has the ability to frame her sentences in ways that make you think, even if you disagree with her. So, yeah, I let her get away with a lot. :giggle:

Exactly. It is obvious. And it is also pretty sneaky and underhanded.

Wirelessly posted (droid)

Am I a hearing person? No. I spoke for myself.

Some people won't comment in this thread because they are tired of repeating themselves. Those of us who are head strong and won't shut up get labeled as militant.
The truth is that most Deaf people don't care what you think. Deaf people will continue their lives as they wish.
