I don't know about you, but a certain individual was promising to close Gitmo if he became president. He is now president and Gitmo is still open.

Funny, the intelligence that revealed his location became available last fall.:hmm: Just because he inherited a situation from a previous admin doesn't mean that he used that previous admin's tactics.

I give Obama full credit for pulling the trigger. He deserves considerably more credit than Clinton, who basically flinched when he could have proceeded.

But it didn't magically all start to happen on the day of his inauguration. He built on intelligence that had been developed prior to his administration.

This is not to take away from him getting the credit for this final culmination, at all. He deserves it.

Various news sources have quoted "a U.S. National Security official" (my guess: Panetta) as saying so.

Here it appears in Reuters:

U.S. team's mission was to kill bin Laden, not capture | Reuters

" "This was a kill operation," the official said, making clear there was no desire to try to capture bin Laden alive in Pakistan."

You'll find that quote all over the place, in media outlets considered conservative, liberal, or neutral, attributed to "a U.S. national security officicial."

Clinton's "flinch" was pre 9/11. I feel certain he would havenpulled the trigger in this case. obama should get credit for continuing the hunt. Pulling the trigger? Pretty easy choice IMO

I give him much more credit for extending the Bush tax cuts. I think that decision was more difficult
 
Can you image the uproar in this country if wikileaks reported a month from now that obama had a chance to get OBL and decided not too? Maybe wikileaks shod get the credit. :hmm:
 
bin Laden is to be killed. if he was captured, where will the trial will be??? Holder will botched it up again like the GITMO military commission.
Pakistan never cooperated. they didn't even knew the U.S. will be at the fancy house.
Pakistan's leaders complained publicly about the U.S. drones attacks, but privately, they agreed with the US in term of training and funding. see NewAmerica.net (Peter Bergen).
it takes a long time to make sure bin Laden was there since last year. What if we came down last year and found out it was a mistake? Pakistanis will denounced us.

It wasn't easy keeping the mission mum. If they missed the target, we wouldn't have had another shot.
