Well, one way you could look at it is that I grew up with nothing at first for hearing, then got HAs. I've gone on to have a successful career as a graphic designer I don't consider myself a failure in the tiniest bit. If I got a CI now, it would be only to gain sounds I've not heard before, and I'm not willing to do a surgery for that at this point.

you do understand reading all my posts in this thread that i havnt been discussing deaf?

you realize that right?

what i have been discussing is Deaf.
not deafness

this is the fundamental plm

people like you cant even state Deaf let alone accept us so its always just deaf, deaf , deaf,,
even though we Deaf every damn day state to us, your ideas and measurement of loss ie deaf isnt high on our list.
to us Deaf what matters more is not your loss, but OUR GAIN
that is our culture and language if you haven't noticed yet.

what i and others DO state is the policies and statements and designs and behavior of the combined system that is CI which actively pursues a policy and system that functions to deny the acquisition of our language that is signs to our children and babies...this combined system and how it acts resembles typical colonization.
is to use their words, "wiping us out" it is, to use their words "lead to extinction"

as Deaf.

Hoochie, I regard anyone dhh, HA or not, CI or not. ASL, PSE, SEE or otherwise. Oral or mute all as part of the deaf community. If you wanna pick n choose, you gonna end up lonely.

we have been using the D in Deaf as we do for over 120 years to signify and state something very real.
and that reality matters.
