I should have answered, F*** no!"
yes you should have said that!
I should have answered, F*** no!"
Are you actually comparing a doctor of clinical psychology respsonsiible for the mental and emotional well being of clients to someone who repairs dents in a car?
- I find it disgusting that he takes advantage of people that way, and that he exploits people on national TV for his own personal gain.
All a show like intervention does is show addicts how to perfect and continue their addictive behaviors. Nine tenths of the program shows addicts engaging in self destructive behaviors.
Oh please - these people go in front of TV to wash their dirty laundry voluntarily.
Nobody put gun to their heads and said - YOU MUST GO ON DR PHIL SHOW OR ELSE!!
same with Dr Drew or any other show - you can not show people without their consent first..
lololl even a humble car mechanic nowadays has to update because of all the technical advances... world went digital and computerized -
- ever wonder what that bing bing bing here and wooonk wooonk there
and blip and flip and every pip and eep sound coming from your car is?
particularly how now cars are hybridized and key-less entry,
iPod touch, and what not..

As for
The determined addict will find their education anywhere anyway.
And of course the whole point of the show like that lies
in showing the addict engaging in self destructive behavior,
in what else?

Had a friend that had a lot of drama in her life....other friends suggested she go on the Dr. Phil Show....and actually called Dr. Phil and gave his assistants her number...and told her Dr. Phil was gonna call her back very shortly....
When they told her what they did...she freaked out!...She said..."OMG...he will tear me up" on that show!...and then the phone rang....and she for some reason, thought it was Dr. Phil...answered and said..."Look, Dr. Phil....I know I've done a lot of bad things in my life...and I'm sorry for it all...I don't know how to back it all up...but I do not want to go on TV about it all."......
The other person on the line....was not Dr. Phil!....And was confused....and said.."This is not Dr. Phil mamm...it's the Office (where she lived) responding to ur complaint about the water faucet dripping in ur kitchen....."
Needless to say, she was embarrassed about it all...I found it funny!...She was really freaking out....
I hope she doesn't smile while posing
Suppose it is your son we are talking about ....

That is why I do not watch those type of shows anymore.
now you're beginning to understand what I was getting at earlier.....
What I find most heart breaking is a mother, who has children...and she's addicted to crack and meth...has received all the counseling, rehabs, family support, etc. ....even the encouragement and forgivenss of her children, and begging her to come home, to stop the destructive behavior...but she does not!...Years and years of the struggle to help her!
She choses the drugs over her family & children....A choice she has made..not her family or children....And the family suffers and asks "WHY"?...
The family awaiting on "that phone call"...saying she is dead somewhere...and the guilt they feel, thinking they just have not done enough for her!
Drugs are so destructive to families....can destroy them also. The hurt remains and lingers on for them.
So, you are comparing someone who repairs dents in a car to a clinical psychologist. Nice.
These people are vulnerable and disturbed. People like Dr. Phil take advantage of that. He then exploits them for his own financial gain. It is disgusting.
OB:
For most addicts, you have to practice tough love in order for them to either get the help they need or to save your own sanity. It's not easy, but I agree with Jillio. You can't coddle these people no matter what. The problem just only gets worse.

NO, I am saying everybody has to update their licence one way or the other.
As for "they have to show continuity of their education" and blah blah blah for what it really is.
Some take it seriously, some just show for seminars or whatever, sign they were there, slip out about halfway, come back at the end,
and that's about it, sweetie.
It's all depends on circumstances and people themselves how they go about "upgrading they education".
In other words, it may mean bupkies.
These people aren't being taken care off to begin with, If you are so sorry for them, where are you??? why aren't YOU taking care of them.
protecting from big bad Phil wolfs???
What is disgusting is a bunch of people pointing fingers at someone like Dr Phil who is yes, a successful businessman, and why wouldn't he be!,
but also someone who actually does help these people when nobody else does by doing that, he also educates more than half of America along with the show.
If not all of them signed to the show receives also financial GAIN, them majority does,
plus majority is further being put into COUNSELING in their cities!
Looks like those who like to bash Dr Phil and other shows like that don't really bother to look deeper behind the curtains.
Of course, that is not to say every story on Dr Phil has a rosy ending
but that is simply because LIFE itself doesn't guarantee a rosy ending to every story!
But of course I am not saying about coddling them. I am saying, if you read me carefully, about actually CARING about them, not leaving them alone to their own devices by spreading your hands saying "she's an adult now, what can I do"?
Like it seem to be done in case of Amy Winehouse ho died tragically from alcohol overdose. On the outside everybody insist - I mean the immediate family- they seemingly did everything they could
but taken under a magnifying glass, it appeared it could have been done much much more...
many many years ago I knew person like that.
Today, looking back I would say two things - it all look pretty on the outside.
in reality this person was only returning to the heartache that caused the addiction in the first place.
This person simply had no motivation to do better, her pain from the past and present was greater despite maternal instinct and will to do better.
Actually, her children for her were only a painful reminder of being a failure as a mother.
Behind severely abused childhood past,
she still had no loving, understanding husband to return to, just same average guy to live with, same menial, boring job, little money.
She simply wasn't neither intellectually challenged, nor she had ever chances
to have better job because she stopped believing in herself.
Too late for her.
Whose fault it was?
Nobody, really, life just suck. Big way.

I understood your point from the beginning. Clearly this guy has problems. My point still remains though. He was desperate.
Does it make it okay? No. It does provide a bit of perspective though.
Yo Fuzzy!! It's better to compare today's teachers to a Clinical Psychiatrist than using an Auto Mechanic in you analogies.
Today's teachers, must take continuing education courses to keep their licensing current. If they don't, they face not having a job or not being able to renew their license. (I am only doing guesswork here based on things I have read and heard, I do not know for fact)
I know in the office I worked at in Missouri, those LCSW's and MSW's were taking all kinds of classes and doing all kinds of things when they could. The administration office kept track of all training and such and knew what specific things the therapists needed and so would schedule all these training sessions and such. I also know some of the therapists got sent to University of Missouri-Columbia for other classes that our office could not arrange.
I got an email from some of the teachers that my daughter had before we moved and before I pulled her from public school. Due to the economy and all, they could not take their continuing education classes that are required for this NCLB crap, that they lost their jobs. I am talking teachers that have 20-40 years experience and all.
Just my 2 cents.
