I like that "multicultural existences". I will use it. Thank you.
Thank you. A lot of people think I am more intelligent than I actually am. It is interesting why I give this impression. "Intelligence" itself is an interesting concept.
My late wife was above average intelligent and far more intelligent than I -- But few people realized it because she was impatient. She could understand something in 2 minutes that would take me 20 -- But if it took her 3 minutes of thinking to understand she was not going to be bothered while I would dwell on it for 2 or 3 hours.
Intelligence is modified by the factors of time and effort.
My wife calls this my "Asparagus mode". She is convinced I have just enough of a touch of Asperger's syndrome to allow me to concentrate on a subject past what the normal person can tolerate. She is also more intelligent than I am but her area's of interest are different than mine. Thus people believe we are both intelligent but no one compares us.
I also attribute my appearance of intelligence to the way I think. I eschew logic in favor of semantics and systems approach thinking -- More or less simplified in the concept of High Context Reasoning -- Which was exemplified to me by: And explains my affinity for -- Deaf Culture.
There are all forms of intelligence and the most valuable is not even accounted for on standardized testing...fluid intelligence. Fluid intelligence is also central to high context thinking. Fluid intelligence is what allows for knowlege to be applied creatively in new situations, and also allows for obscure connections and patterns to be discerned. Just judging from what I have observed, I would say that you have a high degree of fluid intelligence.
Fluid intelligence is what I am trying to achive for with my students with the lessons I create. Is it a learned skill or is someone born with it?
I am having trouble with two of my students when it comes to getting them to think critically right now but then again, they both have language delays so i dont know ...arrghh

My mind melts at your thoughts.

The Sorenson guy who set up my VP had a CI but told me about his circle of friends who sign. He agrees that some cultures are actively sought out.
It puzzles me that they would come here wanting to connect with other deaf/hoh people like them but dont want anything to do with Deaf culture which is fine. Plenty of people here on AD who are not interested in Deaf culture and ASL whom they can connect with. What puzzles me is the behavior and arguments against Deaf culture or ASL. Why the need to do that? If you are not interested in being part of the culture nor learning ASL, fine but dont belittle or support those who belittle Deaf culture and ASL.
