Conn. gun maker celebrates move to S.C. – The Post and Courier

That's me--I was born a Connecticut Yankee but now I'm a South Carolina rebel.

Not surprised, there were many social change in Connecticut.

Some conservative people (or gun owners) are very likely to relocate from northeastern and midwestern states to southern states, however many people, regardless on status, move to southern states because of climate so not want deal with brutal winter and snow anymore, also economy and families are two of reason too.

I have gun-owning relatives who still live in CT and other Yankee states who don't want to move South.

I've read good things about the T3, what caliber where you thinking?

I've been considering the .223 ever since I fired my father's gun - that gun was a real blast and I had so much fun firing it. He has a Remington model but it's a 24" and that's way to heavy for me. The T3 is a 20" barrel, ideal for women in my height range (5'2") or young children. I did initially want a Remington Seven but the gun is so butt ugly - they've discontinued the Walnut or wood models and they don't off it any more in the .223...I was royally disappointed but the T3 seems to be the next best thing and it's a very sharp looking gun too. I hope to get a scope for it too.

Very true, I'm one of them. It's a very different culture down south and for those that grew up ethnic neighborhoods, you miss a lot. Not to mention the heat is absolutely staggering to get used to during the summer months...no thanks.

The Mosin Nagant is a great "must have' rifle. The ammo for it is cheap, and the rifle is cheap.

I used to have a Romanian PSL (AK-47 on steroids) that was chambered for the same round as the Mosin - the 7.62 x 54R. Before the recent gun scare, ammo was cheaper than it is now . I could get $440 rounds for $90 but now it ranges between $110-$130.

I would go through an entire 440 round tin with the PSL at one range visit. Semi Automatics are GREAT, but they burn through ammo. A bolt action helps you conserve a bit.

However, the ammo for my Savage Arms 7 mm Remington Mag is ridiculously expensive. Some go for $80 for 20 rounds. I have been buying a box of Federal for $25 per 20 every other week because if you have looked for ammo recently, most places only have 7mm rem mag left. ;)

All of my semi auto high capacity firearms were lost during a boating accident unfortunately. :(

I wouldn't rule out getting some of the guns you mention for future purchases, but I really have always wanted a bolt action. My father's gun was just incredible and I was in love at the first shot. :D

Yes, that's true but I should add "some" to my post above.

I know some gun owners love California so they don't want move to state that is middle of nowhere, so they prefer to deal with strict gun law.

For North vs. South, you have choice to deal - brutal winter in northern states OR brutal summer in southern states. :hmm:

I absolutely am "in love" with where I live. Home is where the heart is.

Yes, but there are some ethnic neighborhoods in southern states (Atlanta, Miami, Houston and Dallas).

The brutal summer is totally understandable and it is horrible for sure.

in suburb of Atlanta?

I like Buckhead, Midtown and Downtown in Atlanta. Sandy Spring is nice too.

I live in between the suburbs of Atlanta and the rural farms of North Georgia. Alpharetta is pretty nice and only 20 minutes away.

More like exurb?

I dislike to live in suburb that is very far from city, such as Woodstock to Atlanta, but the real estate in Woodstock is cheaper than other suburban cities like Sandy Spring that are very closer to Atlanta.

Yes, Alpharetta is nice and they got big mall.

I like being able to leave my house to go somewhere without having to pull on boots, coat, gloves, hat, scarf, etc. I just grab my keys and purse and go.

And no shoveling or deicing.

It depends on what you consider "ethnic."

I don't find the summers to be brutal. I also like snowy days but not when they go on and on and on….

I wouldn't mind having a summer cottage in CT so I could visit family but it's just way too expensive to live up there again.

I love it here. People are friendly and the 'paranoia' of the city is next to non -existent here. Kids still ride their bikes out in the open with their friends. They still go 'exploring' in the woods. It's nice. They grow up real slow like ... probably saving a lot of $$$ on therapy as an adult :giggle:

What is 'paranoia' of the city means?

Yes, your area is good place for families with child but probably not great for single, especially me. The single hikers could be different story.

Live in exurb worsen my depression and I can't wait to get out of those area.

I mean that people whom have lived in inner cities are more paranoid about other people than those from rural areas. They are less trusting of people.

And ... in most cases, they have a very good reason to be.

It could be true for depressed city like Detroit or depressed section like South Atlanta.

I'm no country man, I prefer urban life, even small or large with excellent public transportation. Flagstaff (AZ) is small city with mixed of urban and forest are perfect for me.

The suburban cities are not bad if there is strong urban and public transportation.

I just like being as close to nature as I possibly can. Just my preference.

223 is fuuuuun in a bolt gun. It's amazing how good the bolt guns are these days. With machine tollerances what they are today even some cheap factory guns are getting sub 1 moa. My advice if your going to scope it is to spend the money and get quallity. I see so many nice guns with crap scopes on them.

I hear you on that, I don't want a piece of garbage. I plan to get something really nice even if I have to save up for it. A good scope is just as important as a good gun, and it can make a good gun, great. It's been a while since I shot .223 rounds and I'm really looking forward to it. I'll probably end up buying it about the time I get my promotion at work. A small celebration for myself.....
