Wish for 2011

Why is it that the CI parents, who have plenty of other options for achieving their goal of having a CI site refuse to accept the very simple solution to their problems that is in front of them, and instead continually attempt to change the reality of this site into what they, alone, want it to be?

Anyone else see a pattern in these behaviors? Looks like changing things into something they want it to be instead of accepting it as it is would be a pretty consistent behavior pattern for some.:hmm:

Didn't have to ask me.

That with the Moderators' assistance this can once again be a forum where people with cochlear implants, parents of children with cis, and those considering the ci for either themselves or for their children can discuss, share ideas and learn from each other.

That it once again become a forum free from those who seek to high jack and derail cochlear implant discussions.

Moderators--the ball is in your court.

Rick

We support ci technology as an option where other options has been tried and failed. Most of us prefer the way we are and defend in what we believe works for us. You have the same priviledge. This forum provides the extreme perspectives of either sides for those in need.

Thanks Mr. Mod.

LOL-good point

It probably got lost in all the posts last night but I hope your recovery is going well and when is your activation scheduled for?
Rick

Thanks, it did get lost! Recovery is going really well and activation is January 6th and 7th.

If only that was true, then I would agree with you. You only have to look at this past month and the number of threads closed and connect the dots to see that what you preach and what you condone as a Moderator are two completely different things.

Nah, they practice what they preach. They made this forum available to the likes of you after all.

Following the thread's title:

I wish for all of the Deaf people to enrich the culture, spread the love of ASL, spread words of prosperity, educate the uneducated, and be intoxicated with joy!

High fives all around.

High five, down low, around the back...there you go!

There you go. Open forum for all. All are free to express their thoughts, opinions, and feelings on any topic in this forum. It would appear that some don't want freedom. They want control of others. Perhpas the starting place would be control of themselves. **shrug**

My wish for 2011 is that people realize that their rights to control are limited to themselves.

Happy New Year LinuxGold!

It's too bad that the 'extremists' who are against CIs and the 'extremists' who are interested in HAs and CIs share a section :) .

What forum is that on? I haven't seen Sweetmind here in years! Or was that a subtle attempt at name calling and provoking?

Now, now, let's not create anymosity in what has been a perfectly civil discussion.

And to remind... no one has to do anything. They choose to do it. They simply are unwilling to accept the consequences of that choice and expect everyone to adjust to them. A huge difference between choosing to and having to. If you choose to share the forum, then you can also choose not to share the forum. There are other options for you to chat about CI online.

I've seen a separate hearing aid forum. But I'm not here to learn about hearing aids and I know very little about them (~5 months worth with one brand) that I could share.

I'm here because I'm raising a deaf child who is bilingual in ASL and English, bicultural in a Deaf and an integrated community, and is learning in a very new and unprecedented environment. I want us as a family (because at 4, she's not getting the car keys and I don't want her Deafness to be an isolated experience) to be exposed to all aspects of the deaf community, both local (in real life) and global (online and via conferences, symposia, etc.). If I want input from or to interact with those who use CIs alone, I would go to one of the 4-5 CI forums I participate in. If I want to engage with deaf, regardless of technology, it seems that alldeaf would be a good place to be, and a great place to find others who are choosing a bilingual route.

Do you think that families of deaf children with CIs, and therefore deaf children themselves (since Li's not allowed to be online on her own yet) should keep to themselves and not be welcomed as participants in the deaf community?

Like I said - I have NO energy to explain again. It looks like you're trying to beat the same thing over and over. But really I know you're MUCH smarter than that.

You don't want an "uneducated" kid out in the boonies discounting someone out of Cambridge. And I don't want to go there.

Get yourself a prescription for a sense of humor.

First off, people need to accept there will always be tribalism. Deafness is nothing.

Wait until you start dealing with animals. You'll be surprised how many people are willing to poison your dog, steal your gecko or lose a snake because someone disagree with your philosophy. Sad thing is: people gets away with these kind of things. Worst thing, not subjected to the laws, I've heard in the deaf-world is blacklisting.

So the request for moderation seems odd considering people are much more vicious in other circles.

I do think that with the popularity of the late-deafened thread that there could certainly be an entire subsection for them, not just one thread. I agree that is a good idea.

I also second what Jillio said about this be a Deaf forum for the Deaf community. I think the bottom line is that you may all do as you wish, we support people with CI's, hearing aids, or no amplification what-so-ever. We all also have our own opinions rooted in a long history of oppression and being a minoritized community. The hearing members need to respect that and understand where we are coming from.

That would be nice.

you're in right place!

no they shouldn't keep it to themselves but that didn't happen in here. the question is - should CI users (and parents of CI users) come here and hear what they want to hear and say what they want to say that offends deafies?
