Wish for 2011

You know, I have always believed if you have a wish, you take action to make that wish a reality. If one wants to post in an online forum that says nothing but positive things about oral only environments and refuses to let any drawbacks of the use of CI for purposes other than which it was intended be mentioned, then one has the freedom to start such a forum. However, that freedom does not extend to attempting to force change on another forum. Wishing for such a place? Create one. But don't assume you can take someone else's away.

Very true.

This is the only one, alldeaf where it is a familiarized very well with the Deaf Culture and ASL issue here that I have been coming since 2003. Also, ALLDEAF is the other word is SILENCE.

Would be nice to find this a place that welcomed even those new to Deafness with warm hearts and open arms rather than a punch to the solar plexus and poke to the eye. The journey has to start somewhere and I've heard too much about being shut out of society from those here to think that you don't realize that's exactly what you are doing to late-aware, late-deafened, and parents of deaf children.

So, what if first contact happens to be about CIs, a discussion about something many in the deaf world have in common, and a relationship is forged with the community, growing from there? Why is that a bad thing? Why would it be a bad thing to have a vibrant community of those with an interest in CIs, which reflects the deaf community in the real world, and begin exposing these people to Deaf Culture, to ASL, positively. This section of the site could be a bridge, a feeder line that brings in those unfamiliar with Deaf Culture. Rather than a "Keep Out" or "No Trespassing" sign.

There is no "Keep Out" or "No Trespassing" sign. Not once have I seen a poster immediately attack a parent who had a child implanted. That comes later as more information becomes available.
For example. if a newcomer parent stated that s/he is teaching the child to walk, we at first applaud it. But when the parent divulges that an old fashioned chastity belt is used to pinch the clitoris as part of the training, someone takes offense. The parent becomes defensive and the fight is on. A bad example, but I hope you get my point.

All I see is a bunch of Deaf people discussing a topic very politely and reasonably. **shrug**

Actually , one of us would like the opportunity to send the nasty little boy's diatribe of last night to his minister.

well grendel, guess not.

i agree with you 100%. If this forum was any person's first point of contact with the deaf community, i doubt they would verture any further.

as for this being a Deaf site....i believe it is called alldeaf not Deafcommunityonly.com but again, the only perspective that is "appropriate" and acceptable is that of the Deaf minority, not of the entire deaf community.

yeah, yesterday decended into insanity, but there have been so many threads that have ended that way-one poster insulting and fighting until another poster ends up taking the bait....and that first poster is always the same person.

i wish for peace in the new year (and for that poster to stop anonymously posting comments on my blog  )

Actually, that is an excellent analogy.

Then close your blog.

What is this tendency of some hearing posters to feel that everyone else must conform to what they want. If you want something, then take action yourself to make it come true. Don't expect anyone else to do it for you. **shrug**

It is history revisited...hearies trying to change the Deafies. The solution is really simple. Don't like this forum, don't visit it. But you have no right whatsoever to think you can change those that do like it. You are simply not that important. Why should anyone go out of their way to do as you demand?

Yeah, it feels like the general consensus says that we must conform.. I'm not going to do it.

Anyhoo - An example of what FJ could have done differently - Give praise for what one can do, ie: writing a letter to pepsi... But guess that would divert from her agenda.. However I dont expect her to do that.

Like I said...history repeating itself. Hearies demanding that deafies conform to their way of being because they don't like the deafies way of being. And they say they are not audist.:giggle:

+1 don't take the bait

My wish for 2011, that people would stop fishing.. :P

LOL-good point

It probably got lost in all the posts last night but I hope your recovery is going well and when is your activation scheduled for?

Wishing the same to you and that all the big changes ahead for you and your family go great!

Why is it that the CI parents, who have plenty of other options for achieving their goal of having a CI site refuse to accept the very simple solution to their problems that is in front of them, and instead continually attempt to change the reality of this site into what they, alone, want it to be?

Anyone else see a pattern in these behaviors? Looks like changing things into something they want it to be instead of accepting it as it is would be a pretty consistent behavior pattern for some.:hmm:

Following the thread's title:

I wish for all of the Deaf people to enrich the culture, spread the love of ASL, spread words of prosperity, educate the uneducated, and be intoxicated with joy!

High fives all around.
