What is it so bad about CI?

Alright, let settle down and end the bashing.
No more off topic debate if it is harmful or will set up to have more bashing, arguement, insulting or any of it from now and on in this thread and if I see more of those I apologize but I will request to remove the post to keep this friendly. I won't remove it if its harmless off topic comment or if minor debate come up, please keep it short and end it quickly and go back on topic right away. its acceptable. So please get back on topic about CI being an threat to deaf community and reply to other response to the post related to the topic, please thank you

Gotta agree with you on this, flip. Members of Deaf Culutre don't seem to be too concerned about Deaf Culture disappearing. They see first hand the number of chidlren that still require sign and a connection to other deaf even after being implanted. They see the deaf adults who have chosen CI still using sign and still connected to the deaf community. That "Deaf people are afraid it will make their culure obsolete" is nothing more than a way for the oralists to try to discount the very valid objections and limitations brought up by the Deaf" and to justify the fact that they refuse to listen to the cons.

It also tells me that some oralists really belive CI is going to make Deaf Culture disappear. Perhaps not anymore as it's hard to ignore that Deaf Culture still is going strong after 20 years with CI.:giggle:

I would hope that ASL and Deaf culture lives on cuz it is so great to be a part of a community like this..if it wasnt for the Deaf culture and ASL, my life wouldnt be as interesting as it is now alternating between two worlds. :)

No, you are wrong. Cochlear companies advices people with CI to not dive more than 90 feet. You can't take of your CI, because it's internal.

It's known that doctors have adviced parents to stay away from sign language more than once, so it's not as simple as you are claiming here.

My friend is doing a research on CIs and she has been reading articles and interviewing people. She tells me what she has discovered is frightening...that the medical community is advising the parents to place their implanted children in oral only programs without the use of sign. She also discovered something else disturbing..that these doctors are making recommendations to the FDA (I could be wrong..will ask for more clarification later) that putting children with implant in signing programs being considered neglect. If that is true, that will make me sooo sick to my stomach.

In what sentence did I mention the scuba diving?
Clairification: I was talking about external processor that you can take off when you do any sort of thing that requires some kind of rough contact activities, swimming, shower, sleeping and etc. I didn't not say anywhere in my thread about taking internal implant off to do scuba diving deeper than 90 feet so be careful with what you say in reply :)

And I said medical advices. Meaning what they think is only based on making the most use for CI not on cultural view, educational view, written language skill, only on speech and listening alone.
And it would not make any senses if you get CI and not practicing listening to people talking, have speech therapy, uses speech much as possible to learn and get most uses and success out of CI. It'll be like blind person getting bionic eyes that can enable enough vision to read big bold word and not letting person to learn how to read regular way and force to remain using braille when person got the ability to read. I'm not against ASL, I'm not against pure Oralist. I'm not against using sign. But what I'm saying is it only makes senses if you try teach children with CI or adult learning to listen and talk much as possible and try uses signs on the minimal on learning period like use when necessary, when you're tired, want take break, during something you can't wear hearing aid/CI like bath, sports and etc, recreation, to communicate when you still haven't mastered the speech skill yet and deaf social events.

I highly doubt that will ever get passed. It could get proposed in FDA meeting but I'm pretty sure it won't get approved. Since million of controversal medical or educational proposal, idea, theory, device, anything get brought up in FDA meeting but high percentage get denied or turned down. So...

I could be wrong about the FDA but the doctors are writing a proposal about requiring implanted babies to be enrolled in oral only programs instead of BiBi programs. I dont know which agency are they going to submit it to but I think it is the FDA. Like I said, I will ask my friend tmw for more clarification. I was driving when she told me about this so I wasnt paying full attention to it.

ScubaladyTX said: "CI is very limited for outdoor/swimming for deep like scuba diving. Hearing aid is unlimited and itself can get off and on."

And you replied with "Thats is totally not true, hearing aid have same limitation as CI,.. "

ScubaladyTX is talking about "deep like scuba diving", not plaing swimming or showering. I think you did not get what ScubaladyTX tried to tell you.

This is controversial, and not supported by any research.

Oh ok

I will have to ask that no more religion be talked about in this thread as the creator does not wish to have that in this thread. If you want to make a new thread about religion and CI fine, pls do so. But I also ask that you respect the creator and do not bring religion into this thread.

There is still a comment on the religion part by Raykat in post 79. If we remove that post, I agree it's nothing related to religion here left.

already removed flip. I dont see any references to it at all.

Now can we please get back to the topic of the thread? And no more off topic?

But GA remember that is not always true for every Cier. You met me and I am a Cier, did I try to force it on you?

The ones that do this are NOT the majority of us that has chosen to go the CI route.

I accept my friends as CIers OR NOT Ciers. The only thing I care about is communication and personalities of each person.
