What Induces Fear?

hhmmm.. I don't know why but due to my observance in here, it seems like a handful of blinds have anxiety/panic attacks in public place.

i know someone who has severe agoraphobia who can't leave her home. she can't even travel to public places if someone drives her there, so she has a volunteer come to her home every week to run errands and do grocery shopping.

I dont know about Nika, and Hear again, but the panic attacks/fear is not due to my blindness.

nika and i have ptsd which explains our anxiety and panic attacks.

nika, please correct me if i am wrong.

by the way, my anxiety is also caused by my manic episodes as well.

ooohhh... i wasn't aware that typeingtornado19 isn't blind. ignore my assumption then. forgive me.

I wonder, don't they have a special assistant for the blind who needs to do anything for u?

We have some other things in common (not related to blindness) that are more likely the cause for our anxiety.

You can hire a reader/driver to drive you and then read labels, letters, bills, work... etc, or you could take a cab/bus to wal mart or wherever and ask for customer service.

I am blind.

oh. then my assumption's back in. typeingtornado19, nika, and hear again are blind and do experience anxiety/PTSD/panic attacks in public/crowdy place. any other blind ADer who experiences the same?

Exactly, i know no other blind adults that have the same things in common as us that have anxiety in crowded places.

yes. there's an agency for the blind in my area who recruits volunteers to help with shopping.

however, i don't take advantage of this since i am able to do my own shopping by requestig help from the customer service desk. i've lived in my neighborhood for the past 14 and a half years, so everyone pretty much knows who i am.

I do not have PTSD, at least not diagnosed.

Jiro, we have some other things in common in terms of our experience that are probably much more likely the cause of our anxiety. I don't think our blindness is related in any way to our anxiety.

yes but my assumption is that it seems that blinds are more prone to anxiety/ptsd/panic attack than sighted people in public place.... no? :hmm:

If I recall correctly... Lucia does not like crowdy place either.

I do not have PTSD, at least not diagnosed.
which is why I listed a few

blind people are not more prone to anxiety attacks than sighted people. that is just an assumption. the reason why it seems that way to you jiro is because nika, typeingtornado and i have all expressed discomfort being in public places. however, we do not represent the majority of blind people.
