What Induces Fear?

And the Polices hate that. They don't want the suspect to talk about how awful things are. All they want is a proof.

Beside, have you ever seen a large woman getting mad over her food? She'd eat it all, but it was not what she wanted, so she'd yell with her mouth full and wave the plate in the air. If I was the waiter, I'd hide.

Oh God! I have seen that when they discipline kids, which is way overkill for me!

when this kind of thing happens to me, i'm too immobilized to move or speak.

Lots of times I am immobilized too. Sometimes I run out of the room, and my legs are moving before I realize they are moving.

no matter how hard i try, i can't get my legs to move even if i want them to. oh well.

That's called the Freeze reaction. There are actually three reactions to fear, which is ignored in the term "Fight or Flight" reaction. The third is the Freeze reaction. That's what you're experiencing. I usually have either the Flight or the Freeze one, depending on the flashback.

when i was a child, i used to experience fight or flight, but ever since i became an adult, i only have a freeze reaction.

unfortunately, all of my flashbacks prevent me from moving even if i want to.

There's another reaction too.

The wolf reaction - You don't do anything. You just stand there quietly and after 3 minutes, you laugh then you walk past the person who's talking to you or yelling. That person will be greatly insulted.

Don't do it unless you have guts.

That's interesting. With time I have been having more freeze and less flight too. I wonder if there's a correlation with age or the amount of time you've had the flashback and the type of reaction you experience? <curious>

i don't know if there's a correlation. i've been experiencing flashbacks for the past 19 years and having a freeze reaction has always been the norm for me.

...or want to get shot in the process. do you not know what kind of a violent world we live in?

Not really. I've always had a freeze response. I can't move. Half the time, I'm only half aware of my surroundings and can only "see" what my mind is replaying for me. It's terribly frightening.

i agree ocean. it is frightening. i don't see any of my surroundings, but that's because i'm totally blind. i also don't hear anything either due to my auditory hallucinations.

There is no question flashbacks are terrifying. I hate having them, especially in public places or when people are trying to talk to me. (I get them a lot in class and am always terrified my professor will ask me a question when I'm mid-flashback.)

have you talked to your professor about this? if he or she is aware of your flashbacks, perhaps they can choose their words more carefully so as not to trigger you. (i should have done the same thing to my statistics professor explaining that constant walking from one side of the room to the other makes me extremely manic.)

WhoA.

THaT driVES you CRAzY??! I DuNNo whO'D trY thAT. NO ReSpeCT.

Did that bother? hehe.

you don't know what having a manic episode is like, so i'm not going to try and explain it to you because you probably wouldn't understand even if i did.

You don't have to.

I lived with one, it sucked. We're not friends anymore cause he decided to screw me over. Sucks.
