What did you learn today? Part II

There are 4th graders taller than me! I'm no runway model that's for sure!!!!

True 'dat. Did you?

Two hours might be more than necessary, but at least an hour is a good idea.
Well according to [url="http://automechanics.wordpress.com/2008/03/08/how-to-recharge-a-dead-battery/"car mechainces sites[/url], this is not necesscary except with older car models nowadays.

I have had professionals tell me the same thing as this link. I've gone thru a few car batteries because I have a bad habit of leaving the lights on.

Sometimes I could could jump start them but other times I had to get new batteries cuz I left the lights on so long they had to be replaced.

When this happens, I just let car run for 30 to 40 mintues. I haven't had trouble stating the car after 30 mintues. However, letting the car run for just 15 mintutes is is not recommened. :P

This time around, I let it run for nearly an hour. It's working fine now; I drove it two hours later.

I thought there was a battery on the market that prevents this from happening. It was about twice the cost of a regular battery but might be worth looking into. Check with NTB.

If something like this happens to you frequently, I would think it would be well worth the cost.

I learned that a person I really liked and respected deleted my friendship of FB.

That's really unfortunate, Kristina. That whole dust-up seemed very strange, since the, um, precipitating situation was well-known and talked about, and obviously the event itself was not exactly a surprise.

Anyway - hugs to you. I'm sorry that happened.

I learned that it is wise to determine early on if a person is just mistaken, or if they are delusional. The mistaken are generally open to discussion regarding their errors. The delusional just keep claiming a reality that does not exist.:laugh2: Useless to correct them, as delusions do not respond to logic and information.:laugh2:

Be quiet! I really am a Zombie!! :P

you must be thinking about a "diehard" battery that is completely sealed aka "maintenance-free battery". It is sturdier than regular battery when it comes harsh winter/summer damage. that's what i'm using for my motorcycle.

if the battery is relatively new and it's dead to the point where you gotta replace it... replacement is free under warranty.

if you keep forgetting to turn lights off, then see a professional to install relay chip that will automatically shut off your light when your engine is off. It's really a small price to pay compare to buying new battery, towing truck, and labor fee all together.

My brother's old Infiniti automatically shuts off lights when engine is off and when he exits his vehicle. most modern cars too but I don't understand why my Xterra doesn't :dunno: but it automatically shuts off after a few minutes.

I am learning about exercise bikers especially Schwinn 140 Upright Exercise Bike. It cost 350 bucks. Not sure about it yet.

Never been a real fan of stationary bikes. I much prefer the non-stationary type.

I heard it I saw news breest teach on children not silly stupid on who is influence stranger!

paretns fault, parents thinks stranger on children!

I learned that my great aunt's house (it was the same house my grandmother grew up in) was auctioned off for $1 million and ten thousand dollars.

WOW!!! Hope you've got pictures of it. Did you spend any time there when you were young?

Sounds like for that money, the buyers are going to continue to use it as a house. I hate seeing beautiful old homes destroyed just to build something new on the same site.

Not that everything is worthy of preservation of course, but when you do have a nice example, it's nice to see it still being loved and cared for.

Deafskeptic, yeah, what Jiro said. A relay chip shouldn't be that difficult to install, although make sure you find a GOOD mechanic who knows what he's doing.

Most cars do shut off their lights when the ignition is turned off these days. My old Camry (1992) even did that. Of our current cars, the Volvo will turn the lights off immediately; the Z will turn them off in about 10 minutes or so. The manual says it is "not recommended" to leave the lights on, but at least there's an idiot-proof back-up system on it.

I might have a pic or two somewhere. Yes, I have visited there few times. It was a wonderful big house. Over 100 years old. I'm sure the house will still be intact with some renovations done on the inside. It's in a prime location.

It's sad that a family piece of history is now gone, though.
