I know I know..I cant believe I made it through. One tooth, it wasnt so bad but on the other one..oyyyy!

That's just crazy. I had no idea it was that expensive !!! Glad it is over for you, though.

Oh, on that one tooth where it hurted, I almost bawled.

It wasnt the dentist fault...it was the insurance's fault. She needs to get paid for her services but unfortunately, if I wanted the shots, it would be $350 each. I cant afford it for both.

What's next...no athesentic for surgery?

Golly.

Lordy, I hope it doesn't get that bad! I know insurance is cutting out a lot of things that they normally would have paid for now that no one can be turned for 'pre-existing' conditions. Why can't insurance companies just do the right thing and help us with our medical needs, including having a relatively pain free visit?

He has been very patient with me....

he must be in a very veyr calm and relaxed mood. :giggle:
He must be!!! Most guys I know would have told me to shut up and keep drinking if I did that. LOL.

We had to change insurance because the last dentist said I had seven cavities and that his old insurance wouldnt cover them at all and that I had to shell out $2,000 for all of them. I was like ...wait a min because his insurance did cover cavities with only a copayment of $20. That was in Feb 2011.

So, I said ...wait and went home to my hubby to tell him what I was told. He was liek WTF and called his insurance. Turned out that it was changed so he said "fuck that." Changed his dental insurance for all of us. Took a while for all the paperwork to go through and blah blah...got new insurance but it wouldnt cover my old dentist. So, last week, we went to the new dentist to get our checkups and cleaning. She said i had two cavities and I was like..."whoa! My old dentist said I had 7." She said "No, you do not." She showed me the Xrays..sure enough..only two.

WTF...did my old dentist find out that our insurance no longer covered cavities and tried to rip me off by saying I had 7 caviites when I really only had two?

This current dentist did Jimmy Carter's teeth and a lot of charity work in dental work in 3rd world countries so I think I can trust her but damn the F****** insurance that wont cover pain meds for caviites unless necessary. DAMMIT!

thinking how much I have been a great influence to other people...:D

Explain to the dentist that you don't tolerate pain well and that it makes you physically ill if the pain is just unbearable. They will likely work with that. You gotta play the insurance companies the same way they play against you.

That's crazy, Shel. And just ....

I have had good teeth all my adult life. I moved to a new city 6 years ago so switched dentists. She "found" all these problems and I was shocked. Thought my previous dentist must've been bad. I paid out a mini-fortune to have work done, and then about 1/2 way through it all, my mom talked me into going to HER dentist that she'd known and seen for 25+ years, so she completely trusted her. So, I did. She found NOTHING more that needed to be done. (I was only "1/2 way" done according to the other scam dentist.) And I wonder if any of that work I had already done even needed to be. Still fuming over that to this day, but I never went back. I stayed with my folks' dentist instead.

This is the first time I have had cavities in decades. I am new at allof this. LOL!

I've never had cavities, but then again it's been about 10-15 years since I've been to a dentist for myself. Now, I'm uninsured, so going to the dentist is just out of the question.

I hate insurance companies, they say they are there to 'help' but good grief they help us like a poor man feeding crumbs to pigeons in the park. We get very little if anything at all. I'm beginning to wonder if it' even worth it to have insurance anymore...

First time I had them, I was 10 then never again until I was 32. Now, this is the 3rd time. Weird.

I've only seen the dentist for myself only once in my lifetime. Sad huh? The one time I went was to have three teeth pulled and my remaining teeth cleaned. I loved the nitrous oxide though.

I am thinking that I do not like my new dentist. I got my teeth drilled without pain meds today. It was nerve wracking.

I got my wisom tooth pulled out and went canoing very next day. You'll live. :)

I got 3 tooth fillings last Jan. and Feb. Yes, I got shots but I didnt flinch.

I am thinking I am annoyed at myself. I had what I thought was a contact for 2 years and just found out it's not under contact! Ugh. Am now calling to cancel the service.

???

If it was determined not needed then insurance wont cover it.

Love how insurance companies play dirty, heh?
I don't know what kind of idiot would determine that a shot is not needed before drilling

it's a very common tactic that some doctors/dentists do to rake in profits. makes you wonder why the cost is expensive.

my ex's uncle got audited for raking in so much $$$$$ (millions of dollars lat year) and she left the job because she didn't like it when her uncle was using her name & license to "balance" it off. good riddance

wait till you have to go in for root canal which is preventable by regular check-up.... the cost of one root canal procedure dwarves the cost of a few years of regular check-ups :Ohno:

don't you have any local dentist who can work with patients with no insurances?

and don't you qualify for Medicaid?

well - very few insurance companies are very good like Aetna but rest... yea it's bad. They're stingy and very regulative. I'm very fortunate to have a full coverage from Aetna as of last year. no problem at all.

All of the local dentists require payment in full for all visits if you do not have insurance. Sucks, but that's rural America for ya.

No, there is no Medicaid program in AR for my age group. We have ARKids1st Medicaid insurance for children 0-18, and pregnant women who are pregnant qualify for Medicaid up until 8 weeks after giving birth.

At best I'm SOL as far as insurance goes. The only way I'm going to get halfway decent insurance is to get a good job. The way things have been for the last several years, I'm doubtful this will happen anytime soon.

With the debt ceiling being raised again..... guys would like to invest some in gold/silver.
