The next big storm?

Just curious, when it is that cold and you dress for it with multiple layers and such, what happens when you like go into a store. Inside like the mall it's always warm, what do you do with all your layers? Do your malls have coat checks?

We set a record hight today, almost 80 degrees. Things look to be getting worse rain wise. Sad:-(

When I first moved to Maryland, during my first two winters there, I dressed in layers because I didn't know what to expect but then after a few years, I stopped doing that. I only wore one layer of clothing and my jacket today. I was fine until after 20 mins out in the cold. Then, it was time to go in.

When I took my son sledding the day after the storm hit, it was windy and 5 degrees. We definitely dressed in layers because we knew we would be outside.

If I am just going to work, the store, or anyplace that is warm, indoors, I don't dress in layers because I wont be standing out in the cold for too long. My husband had to wear long johns today because he will be outside waiting for the commuter train and that can be a 20 minute wait in the cold.

The thermometer on my car said 1° today. Didnt know it could go that low. That was without the windchill. And my 2-year-old insists on taking off his boots and socks every time we get in the car. I usually can tolerate winter but he is going to make it a long one. :)

Thanks for answering gals....Always wondered about that. I am warm blooded and get hot any time I go to the mall. So I dress lightly and leave anything warm in the car. I would hate to go shopping in the mall and have to carry all my stuff.

When Christmas shopping, I use an old umbrella stroller to carry my bags, drink and purse. People look at me kind of strange like "where is the kid" but it helps and that is all that matters. Plus it kind of helps stabilize me if I get dizzy.

Our weather is amazingly beautiful here at almost 80 degrees, but I feel so bad cause we need the rain. We had that one week of major cold snap before Christmas and that is it. I miss winter.

63 here and supposed to be 68-70 through the weekend and early next week. Back home, my parents are getting hit with freezing temps (Plus the house is unheated) and snow. :(

I hear there's another storm for the same areas this coming Monday.....brace yourselves....

Yeah...it ain't over until the weatherman say so, I guess....Lots of hand cream on hand...very dry here....and thinking of a tanning booth....:giggle:...I am so white....Bet it's a good time to "Beach Comb"....if anyone could brave the cold and wind....Lots of treasures await.

...House has no heat??....

No heat or cooling of any kind to control how hot or cold the house is throughout the year and its been like that since we lived there (years).

:hmm:...Seems someone could contact the City about this ??...Feel sure there are many charities that would donate a Heater for ur parents....It's dangerous for older people to live without heat...No way would I live like that....Guessing ur parents live way out in the Country?...No fireplace either?....:hmm:

The last time my parents reached out for help when we lived in even worse conditions, the 'help' received was a condemned sign posted on the front of the house and the state brought charges up on my parents, so even with me telling them to seek help, they won't.

They do live out in the country and no, they don't have a fireplace. Even if someone gave them a heater, how would they power it? They have an impossible time trying to afford electricity on top of food and other things like that.

If you think that is bad, the lack of environmental control in that house is one of the better of the bad things about living there. When I sat in my old room there, it was so cold and the moisture from my breath caused the window to freeze over from the inside, so every time I see the movie Apollo 13, it reminds me of my old room. (Going to find a picture to represent what I'm talking about) But that house really needs a good cleansing fire to be honest.

I guess one develops a tolerance to the cold. When I was living in Phx, anything below 50 degrees was considered freezing for me. Now, it is considered comfortable. Today's high reached only to 12 degrees. Brutally cold out there now.

It's 23 outside, and that reminds me.... I have something I need to do. BRB.

Update: The weather outside is really bad. Blowing snow and wind gusts up to 35 MPH. Tricky conditions for shopping. This is headed out east.
