The next big storm?

Still snowing and already my work and my son's school announced closures tmw. More time for me to finish those report cards and grade book!

The schools in my area and city are already saying they're closed. So maybe I did the right thing to give my notice that I'd be out tomorrow....I wish it were spring.....

Please, please two things.... please!

Check your carbon monoxide alarm if you got fossil fueled appliance around, including furnace, hot water heater.

Don't use gas stove as heater, its not worth it! Best dial 911

I went grocery shopping yesterday and people where loading up their shopping carts , I think people still remember the big storm of '78'. I was still living in California and miss it. I heard we could 5-8 inches of snow. I hope that is wrong.

Some people are calling this a polar vortex.

I call it "winter".

They like giving it a cool name to make them seem important. I agree it's just winter in New England but every time they forecast a storm, people clear out the stores....even the Twinkies.....

It's milk sammich weather :giggle:

No not here. All over the East coast/

My city has a parking ban that started at 6PM tonight and the city is not sure how long it will last. I will not be able to take Marty to the park Wed. as we can't park on the streets. This is a coastal storm .

I have a Weather Channel on my toolbar (lower right). It has a warning which they put out for orange color for New Mexico. There will have winter weather for much of Northern and Central of New Mexico. Arctic cold Front on Wednesday night to Friday morning. There might have 2 to 4 inches of snow on some of the mountains including maybe Santa Fe mountains. Will have below freezing and some 20 to 30 degrees below normal. Also might have winds with gusts to near 40 miles per hour. Furthermore, there might be chances of light snows starting on Wednesday night. :hmm:

Will find out tomorrow through Friday morning. I have to see if that is true. Yeah, sometimes the weather is not predicted right. Every weather person do make mistake thinking that there will be a bad or good weather. Just have to use our eyes to prove that the weather person(s) are correct or wrong.

I highly recommend AccuWeather. These guys are good, and rarely make a mistake. They have forecast for up to 2 weeks, and it's very reliable in planning a trip.

I wouldn't think that forecasting two weeks in advance could be reliable given how quickly things can change. Accurate up to a few hours would make more sense.....

I wasn't talking about the 2-week forecast when it comes to accuracy. Yes, a few hours does suffice, an that's all most of us need. However, because I'm constantly on my feet, a couple of days ahead of time also suffices. It'll give me a better idea.

I agree...when I looked at the long term forecast two weeks ago, it didn't say anything about a major snowstorm today. Just cloudy.

Also, the weather experts just stated that after 12 days ahead, the forecast drops to less that 10% accurate. The reason he stated that is because people want an immediate accurate forecast for the Superbowl. He wanted to emphasize that it was still too far off for a real accurate forecast. Can only do an estimate based on current weather patterns.

We got hit midnight to 6am Tuesday morning with 2" and 35-40mph wind gust, streets are clear, wind was brutal at -10*
and all the weather reports said it was clear till all the sudden last night....crazy shit....you cant predict the weather, mother nature can change in the blink of an eye like last night.

People freak out when they hear 'snow storm' on the East coast . That 78 storm much had been really bad.

What made it so bad? I was only 6 years old and living in the Valley of the Sun at the time.

Me too, I want spring to get here. I can't believe how bad the new plowing company is at my condo. We have two more months and we can get snow in April too. YUCK!

I just looked outside, and I saw a fresh coating of snow from last night, and it's a good thing I don't have a lot to do this week except stay warm. Otherwise, any and all activities can wait.

I think it's done on purpose to get everyone shopping. Say the word "storm" and people immediately go shopping....go figure....

I've been there before-- getting snow in April. Not pleasant.
