I often just begin to fall to one side when I'm walking or standing, and I put my hand against the wall. People think I'm sleepy when I do that.

Are you serious? Do all deaf people experience this or do you just have a particulary extreme case?

Another chilly day...we got some snow...about 2 inches probably. not a alot that my son wanted! LOL! He prefer TONS of snow...kid! We probably get more later on. UGH! I am sooo ready for SPRING!

No snow here, but its rather chilly.

well everyone,

i've made up my mind as far as my left wrist is concerned. it's really starting to bother me again today (i woke up with my fingers feeling completely numb). i've also had a shock-like pain shooting up my elbow several times yesterday.

therefore, i've decided to have surgery. there are two kinds of surgery for carpal tunnel -- open release and endoscopic. i'm going to ask if i can have endoscopic since the recovery time is much faster and the incision made in the wrist isn't as large as it is for open release surgery.

however, i've also decided to attend physical therapy until my surgery date. i figure it can't hurt.

in the meantime, i'll continue to keep all of you posted as to how i'm doing.

Oh wow..that stinks. :| Hopefully, your condition will improve.

yeah, it does suck. from what i've heard, 70% of people who have carpal tunnel surgery are quite happy with the results and are able to achieve full use of their hand several months after surgery. of course, there is also the possibility that surgery will not completely eliminate the numbness, weakness, burning or tingling, but the way i see it, i have nothing to lose. my doctor said the same thing to me and thinks i should give it a try. yesterday I called my neurologist's office for an appointment, so hopefully they will get back to me sometime today.

My co-worker has carpal tunnel too. I don't know if she's had surgery or not, but she sometimes wears a splint when she's typing. Wear and tear after 25 years of sitting at a keyboard, she says.

oh, wow. 25 years at a keyboard will definitely cause carpal tunnel. my doctor also recommended that i wear a splint (which i'm wearing right now) 24 hours a day 7 days a week. unfortunately, it's not helping any. :( i felt a little better yesterday, but woke up with complete numbness in my fingers this morning. oh well.

I know exactly how that feels on both counts. I hope you're feeling better soon!

Sorry to hear that, WhisperHorse. Feel better soon! :)

Thanks SimplyMints and Hear Again. It's pretty hard to be sick at same time taking care of my daughter since I just want to go in my bed and sleep all the way until get better but can't because of my daughter, blah. It's sucks.

YUCK! I don't like SNOW! I had enough all my life...ugh!

I sometime could get sick of Snow but, I just love it because it's pretty, could cuddle in the blanket and drinking hot chocolate or hot tea even I love Snowmobiling! :D

whisperhorse,

you're welcome. :)

yeah, that's rough being sick while needing to take care of your children. :(

hopefully you can take a short nap sometime today which will help you feel a little better.

whisperhorse,

i *love* drinking hot cocoa in the winter!

in fact, i always have a tall mug of hot cocoa first thing in the morning (sometimes i even do this during the summer months).

it's a great way to start off my day! :)

Wow, I should be getting it soon since I've spent about 25 years at my keyboard! I think I've actually had this particular keyboard for about 15 or 20 of them. It has a USB port adapter on it because it doesn't fit any modern ports. I like this keyboard though, and I don't wanna give it up.

I feel much better today although I still have my cold, nothing hurts as much as yesterday.

if you suspect cts simplymints, i'd get it checked with a doctor asap because the longer your symptoms go untreated, the less likelihood there will be for recovery following surgery. also, you don't want to wait until you start experiencing pain because it is at this point that you start to develop shock-like pain that shoots up your elbow. i have this now and it's not pleasant. i'm not sure how long i've had cts, but my doctor says it must have been awhile due to the severe symptoms i have (i.e. numbness, weakness, dropping objects, being unable to clench my fist, being unable to sign my name with a pen, burning and tingling). speaking of keyboards, i'm thinking about switching to an ergonomic keyboard. my braillenote (a pda for the blind) has an ergonomic perkins/braille keyboard which eases pressure on my hands making typing so much easier.
