The CI for children issue (My POV)

Another concern troll. Looks like he'd have better things to do with his time.

I agree that ASL should be provided to all kids with a hearing loss. That way, no matter what, they are getting language.

There are many kids getting CI's as early as 6 months old. Those kids often don't ever have a measurable delay.

They start out with a 6 month delay. And it must be petitioned in order to implant a child that age. The FDA only approves on an individual basis.

Yes they are and have been for years.

Incorrect. There are only screening processes available. Not all birthing centers use even the screenings to red flag. Red flagging merely means a possible problem that needs to be retested when the child is old enough for responsive testing to get an actual diagnostic level.

It's really tacky to come to a deaf board and relate hypothetical stories about deaf children being injured because they are deaf. Have you thought about how that insults a deaf person? Like a deaf person is incompetent to rear her own children or that she might get hit by a car herself. Your attitude sucks.

What is with the asterisks? You have no footnotes and they are just distracting.

Agreed. Hearing children are just as likely, if not more so, to run into the middle of a busy street, as recongizing that the street is filled with traffic is a visual task. Deaf children consistently perform better than their hearing peers on visually based tasks.

Yeah, he has been told how insulting he is. He simply doesn't care. He takes great joy in attempting to insult and degrade the deaf community at every turn.

Bear in mind that it may be a combonation of the type of hearing loss they had (for example if they had hearing but then lost it) the fact that they may have very hyperinvolved parents and so on.
There are kids who have hearing aids who didnt need spoken language therapy. That doesn't mean that everyone with a HA doesn't require intensive spoken language therapy.
There are still hoh kids(nereologically normal no other problems) who have spoken language issues.

shel90 and jilio is right. I butted head with him a lot, and no avail. Fine... do what you want to believe in.

Just don't say they don't need visual alarms for phones, fire alarms and such... because if that CI goes off due to malfunction or going to bed... they won't know.

Interesting as how when the initial comment was about parents of cochlear implanted you and the rest of the amen choir had no comments.

BTW if you reread either post, you will note that no reference is made about the parents being deaf. I guess in your world it is ok to criticize the parenting by hearing parents.

actually it has alot to do with criticizing deaf parents, because they usually SIGN to their kids and you say signing does no good.

Of course it is about criticing the deaf parents. We all know that. But Rick just loves to criticize deaf people period, whether they are parents or not. He is also very fond of criticizing hearing parents that don't believe in the oral only philosophy. He is a member of A.G. Bad, if that tells you anything.:cool2:

Gee, I am a parent of a child with a cochlear implant posting in a forum and thread about parents of and children with cis.

Why are you here?

BTW I do not know why the asterisks are there but if you find them annoying, great!

The deaf child who is hit in the street will grow up to be a deaf adult, of whom you still do not approve because she can't hear.

We've already established that you're an audist jerk. What more is there to discuss?

Your child must be over 20 years old. Living in the past?

My sister almost got hit by a bus when she ran across the street when she was 5 or so...

And she's fully hearing. Mom yelled at her so loud, even I could hear her.

That's why moms hold your hand in parking lots and on sidewalks. I remember my hearing child running toward a street once. I practically tackled him. Had to be fast to keep up with him.

did she stop? or did the bus?

Neither. The bus missed her by like... a foot or two. It was close enough for her to pee her pants, that's for sure.

Edit: Mom actually thought my sister got hit as well since she couldn't see my sister anywhere when the bus passed by... until right after it passed.

I had a hearing cousin killed at the age of 3 running into the street with his mother running right behind trying to catch him, and yelling at the top of her lungs.

see, some kids are just way too immature to listen to stop. You have to watch them like a hawk rather they are deaf or hearing.
