I am more of a country girl. I was born in Chicago, Illinois. I was not used to the big city. My eyes seemed to make noises with lots of flashing and running around crazy. I only lived there for four years before I moved into the country in Michigan and then moved into the forest (bush) in Minnesota. I had to go to Minneapolis to attend mainstream elementary and high school. When there was summer breaks or holiday breaks, I would go up to the bush in Central Minnesota and loving it very much better than the city living.

That is why I am living here on the reservation on the Manitoulin Island where I live in the bush. I love being a country woman the best. The only thing I hate is bugs (landed and flying). :ugh:

I love to do crossword puzzles and love to type right here on the computer. **Smack lip on my fist** When I have time, I would like to do puzzles pieces together to make the pictures. But I don't have time. :(

I'm King of the World!

oh....I like to joke around. And the Boston Red Sox,Chicago Blackhawks,Chicago Bears, Stanford Cardinal and TCU. I am a gym rat 20hrs a week minimum and I am a conservative Christian that just joined 2 liberal wacko enviromental groups  I also play about 250 rounds of golf per year and I haven't slept in my own bed since November 30.

Oceanblue7, what sort of products do you purchase from Arbonne?

Bebonang, I like to do puzzles but like you, I don't have time for it. :)

TXgolfer, did you misplace your bed or something?

Ahh, I see. Aren't you sick of living in a hotel by now? I would. Good luck with completing the renos on your new house. Hope the house will look awesome once it's done.

She is. (Not that she could not answer for herself, but I have a hard time letting questions go unanswered. )

Ok, that's what I thought since she said she lives on a reservation. Thanks for answering ;-)
Bebonang- what tribe are you from? Do you actively participate in the traditional rituals and ceremonies?
I was always told we have Cherokee and Blackfoot in our blood on my moms side. I've been working on my genealogy and trying to trace my roots. I was a bit surprised to learn a few years ago that my Great Grandmother was Coastal Miwok, which were the indigenous group of people in the area I've grown up in.
It was an exciting discovery for me, as I've always felt connected to this land, and have a true love for nature and animals. Even though it's a bit removed, I definitely identify with those roots.

Random question- if the indigenous group lived in Canada, would they be called Native Canadians? I know it sounds stupid, but I'm curious.

I think the "American" in Native American probably refers to the continent not the country.... :dunno:

I am Cree mostly but I do have Cherokee blood on my father's side. I am more into Cree than Cherokee. In my father's family, they never spoke of what happened during the Trail Tears (not sure If I got the title right as it was a long time ago close to the end of the 1800) that make the Cherokees move from Tennessee and Kentucky to move to Oklahoma. My great grandmother had escaped from her people and hide into the mountains. But she hide her identity too. She did tell her children of her past a little bit. It is really a taboo not to talk about being Cherokee. My grandmother was ashamed and very hurt about that.

As for traditional rites and ceremonies, no, I have never been involved in them. I am not the only one. Few of them like me were never involved in traditional rites or ceremonies. Now we start children from school here in the reservation have rites like naming ceremonies. I have never have any naming ceremony and so are my husband's family and himself too. Never had one. That is sad. We are pretty much a modern Indians here. :(

In North America, it is really common to be call "Native American". But I noticed that some Indians (modern) think that we are "Indians". The reason for word "Indian" to me is that it is from India and got the explorers finding the wrong continent and thought that they were landed in India. Bummer.

I have never see or heard anyone here say "Native Canadians", just only "Native Americans". Simple as that, eh? :P

Save one cookie for me when I'm over there. :)

Now you've taught me there's a new way of looking at it. Interesting.
