I vote YES. Regardless of disability must have a death penalty excluding
mental illness or blind.

i voted no!

u do the crime u do the time even if it means getting the death penalty. my concern is, Deaf community is already reputed for putting others in a mudslinger, her life was over the moment the crime took place, now as this unfolds, this comes to me as an eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth, we meet one another in the wrong postion of life, now we must pay our sins on a daily basis, if u dont want to be ruined by ur peers dont do something stupid like this..

the big island of hawaii is going thru a very rough time right now with a coda arrested for murder. its rough big time cuz we ALL know who he is and who is mom is too. its hard.

Voted No. This was a brutal crime and if she deserves death, she gets it.

Voted no due to the same reasons many of naysayers posted.

How can one cut up someone's body without throwing up? I would faint or pass out if I see someone's finger got cut off.

FYI.. The victim wasn't lesbian. She was straight!!

I VOTED NO

That's sounds like her did commited as hate crime.

For me, that's my favorite to send her to ADX in Colorado because death row is too easier and can skipping whole of her life after goes down from lethal injection.

ADX is maximum prison, that one of worst prison and would try to screw her life, also my vote is yes to give her a special for send to ADX then she will be struck in prison for many years until she die from disease or age related when her life is still running but that's worst one.

.. How is mental illness and blindness related?

So you're basically suggesting that, if I decided to kill someone, being someone who's fully competent and able to understand the choice I made, I should not have the same chance at being put on Death Row because I'm blind?

Note to self: have you on my jury.

I voted NO.

In regards of her being deaf should not be the ONLY reason why she can be excluded from the death sentence. Being deaf is not the only reason why it should be allowed.

The defendant's lawyer is making an argument saying that it is not a fair trial because of the communication/interpreting issue in the court room. Personally, I think the communication is not barred because the defendant already has the access to see the interpreters and there are notetakers in the court room.

the verdict on Daphane Wright

Guilty of first-degree murder.
Guilty of felony murder.
Guilty of kidnapping.

And they did say if she was found guilty on these charges, they will seek death penalty..there will be another trial - to determine sentencing....

Speical Thanks to DreamDeaf for replying this message to me....

I am abstaining from the poll vote - Darlene was a good friend of mine, and I still miss her ~ and I know I would not be subjective or neutral in this.

Thank you for understanding.

I voted don't know because it just said disabled, too. Disabled could refer to a mental illness that causes someone to loose touch with reality completely. But I really don't agree with the death penalty at all, because it has been proven that minorities and the vunerable are subjected to capital punishment disproportionately. It is not applied equally across the board based on offense. Therefore, our prisons are full of people who have committed heinous crimes but are sentenced to life, and our history is full of executions for murders committed with extenuating circimstances. Many people have been placed in prison for life or for extended sentences only to discover later that they were wrongly convicted. Had they been executued, we could not bring them back to life. For me, to risk executing even one innocent person in the name of retribution is too great a risk to take. Oops, I'm sorry just doesn't help much when the sate has executed an innocent person. Our justice system is run by humans and humans make mistakes.

i voted no.. everyone gets the equal punishement doesn't matter ur disabilites.

I definitely say NO!! (the title of this post is confusing two different questions, "should deaf put to death" or Should There Be a Different Standard for the Disabled?)

"should deaf put to death" - YES

"Should There Be a Different Standard for the Disabled?" - NO

IT depends on the state laws, its automatically whether you are disabled or not you still got to follow the law. If people gonna say Yes then there will be lawsuits brewing for sure!! sticky to be in this position.. but I think we are equal to everyone in this world for this kind of crime... sadly...

Bless your heart!!! the most important is be yourself!! we do understand!! if others don't, please don't take it to heart!!

But in the US, everyone doesn't get equal punishment.
That is theory only. Actual practice shows that some groups are more subject to harher punishment than others. Deaf happen to be one of those groups historically.

Oops I clicked yes and realised later on that the question was rephrased in a different way from the original topic subject. Grrr. I should have voted no, disabled shouldn't have a different standard from their abledbodied peers.
