SEE is a language... It's English...

You assume it's about you, yet BecLak is the one who's paranoid. Huh?

You seriously didn't notice the irony as you wrote that?

i saw that too.

We asked you to provide documentation on this. This was months ago. A single report would have done. There was outrage by us on this board that people actually were threatened, that police should have been called, and you couldn't back any of that up. You've refused thus far.

And now you want PFH to provide documentation for his statements?

What goes around comes around, lady. Don't talk the talk if you can't walk the walk.

I know. Its absurdly comical.

I'm one of the many parents who have been threatened and harassed for our decisions around CIs that FJ mentioned., likely less than most because our daughter is at a school for the deaf focused on ASL, but disturbing nonetheless. What kind of documentation do you want, I'm not afraid to speak up.

Here, or at all? It happens every day. There are parents of CI users (and parents) that have been threatened, theire childrens schools have been targeted, they are called names, and as I have said before, I had a Deaf person tell me that he hoped CI kids ended up with brain damage so that prents would stop implanting.

why make an accusation like that and then not back it up?

i told you that i was more than willing to put you in contact with parents that have had these things happen, no one cared.

Actually, PFH tried to PM you. It's in the same thread. That went nowhere.

I actually totally believe you. The above-mentioned situation is not a good thing to have happen to you or your daughter. I can speak for myself that I don't disbelieve things you say, but when FJ says things like that and won't follow through, then that sets a precedent for not wanting to believe anything else she says or demands of us.

there was no misunderstanding, everything i said was true.
That's the other problem: everything you've said concerning my situation isn't true because you have made a number of inaccurate and intentionally uncharitable assumptions.

so it is ok to be cut off from communication at home because he gets language at school....ok then.

And so you think that teaching him English as his first language is the better way to go.....?

What? Seriously? I've mentioned it here before and received some very supportive comments from ADers who object to that sort of behavior. One of the more aggressive people was a former ADer. Several parents of children with CIs have commented that they have experienced similar situations. It happens that many of those discussions around such incendiary situations are lost when threads are closed down. FJ offered to put anyone who wanted to verify in contact, I'd have sent her my email address if anyone had taken her up on that.

What sort of behavior? What specifically are you referring to?

we all know where that is going to end up...

lets see faire jour reply to that. *waits*

I am in fact waiting for a response not only from FJ on this, but I am also waiting on CSign's response to my PM.

I shared my experience in mastering the English language both spoken and written. It was all by my own efforts and the support of my mother correcting me especially. No therapy or Special Ed taught me what I know. I figured it out on my own. Having sign language would have made my road much easier, but it can be done without SEE and without running to therapists day in, day out. (NB: The speech therapy I had was intensive but short-lived and it did not teach me the English language, it just ironed out my lisp - with a bunch of tongue twisters - where to place my tongue and lip movements etc. I still had to figure out how to speak and what it all meant) I learned all that from reading first. I didn't learn to read from the therapist.

I abhor the thought that so many deaf children have to be subjected to such methods as therapy and being taught English as their first language and not sign language. Yes it can be done without all that. The deaf can master any language they choose. So why the emphasis on communicating in English first? If it is the 'mother tongue' the child will be communicating in that as well in due course. As it is with many bi-lingual families.

CSign, what many of us here are trying to explain to you, is that SEE is totally unnecessary. The advice given is such: Use ASL directly coupled with teaching your son English naturally as a parent does. Skip the therapy, the stress it involves is SO unnecessary. This way you will be able to give your child the QOL he so deserves (and believe it or not, it will benefit you too)

English was my first language but I was cut off from my world regarding communication. ASL allowed me to finally have some true access to communication.

So, teaching a deaf child English as a first language does not guarantee full access to communication.

Okay Jillio, let's try this one again.

Just because I put on my left sock before the right, does not mean I value my left sock more.

Another fallicious comparison.
