I was responding to PFH about my response to Reba. The two comments were not related, nothing to do with the other.

please use the quote function correctly, you're starting to sound like drphil and I don't even understand this post.

You picked that up too Jillio, if you hadn't I would have." Becklack

Once again, I was on my phone which automatically picked the word for me. I am fluent in English, and I know the difference between "your" and "you're."

I am not sure what you mean. I was thinking that you speak "southern accents".
I have met some southern people that speak strong southern accents, and I fairly understand it. I find interesting that some said, "You'all."

I'm still trying to figure out the quote function. It's irritating me probably as much as it is you.

On the thread, there are two buttons. Multi-quote and Quick Reply.

The "your" vs. "you're" misuse is usually either a grammar mistake or a typo. It's not an accent variation because they are both pronounced the same; to the ear, they sound the same.

The Southern use of "y'all" is a contraction of "you all." It can be heard. It's not an accent but a dialect variation. Dialect is mostly word choice and use; accent is pronunciation.

Click the multi quote quotation marks on as many posts as you wish to quote, then push post reply.

Well butter my biscuit!

I remember how everyone in the southern states said, "Y'all" when I was down there years ago.

I'm not trying to provoke anything. Quite frankly, I'm getting tired of people accusing me of being an audist and anti ASL as I'm not either. It's incredibly bothersome because I wholeheartedly accept my son for who he is, and I embrace the Deaf community. It's insulting and incorrect.

And then there's the **insert snickering here** "yer gonna bust a gut lifting that there stick!" :giggle:

Where did we say you were an audist? Since you said "people" please show me proof of at least 2 people.

I'm beginning to really believe you're a personal friend of Faire Jour.

Now that I've lived in the South for many years, I've learned that there is no such thing as a "Southern" accent. The accent is different in each Southeastern state, and then it varies within regions of each state. I can now identify the differences. Hubby and I laugh at some of the accents used in movies and TV shows. Some character is supposedly from South Carolina but has an obvious Mississippi accent.

In South Carolina it's so specific that Charleston is even further subdivided. There's even a South-of-Broad (SOB) accent for the aristocrats, and then the Gullah-Geechee (dialect and accent) of the outlying island people.

How do y'all like that? ;)

Yep. Ignorance abounds, and in the process, many many opportunities for learning what could actually benefit their child is passed by. Why? Because it is the deaf who are saying it. Audism in all it's glory.

Here is one. You can scroll back a page to see "people" saying I'm anti-ASL

That wasn't a direct response to you, that was a direct response to Beowulf.

:ty: rebeccaj, Beclak, and Shel90.

Not to sound arrogant, but I realize from the number of times that members of this board have contacted me on a private basis to ask for help with issues regarding their deafness or educational advocacy for their deaf children that I am appreciated and the vast majority understand my motivation and the premise from which I operate. That is why, despite the vocal and vicious few that have seemed to develop some sort of a personal grudge against me have not been successful in keeping me quiet on this board. Nor will they ever be successful.

They have issues they need to deal with. If they don't want my input, fine. It doesn't matter to me one way or the other. But I will not sit idly by while they come in here and verbally abuse the other members of this board. I will not allow them to force their audist perspective down our proverbial throats.
It is far past time for that behavior to be put to rest. The Deaf/deaf have
suffered enough from that attitude. I will always be here to speak out against
it, just as I will always be here to advocate for the most beneficial educational
environment for the kids.

Here is another audist comment. While she didn't specify me, the implication is there that I'm grouped in with the "Audists"

Still, it's not a direct response nor a personal attack against you. They did not call you out by your name. There is a difference.
