Salvia drug....illegal in many states.

Good posting. Not only do substances such as red wine have actual chemical properties that are beneficial, moderate drinking or social drinking is also indicative of a healthy coping mechanism that reduces stress. Excessive stress is implicated in any number of disease processes that shorten the lifespan. Not to mention making the number of years one does live miserable years indeed.

I agree. If one drinks too much, it usually means there's some underlying issues going on. Drinking moderately helps you deal with stress better but alcohol also improves the overall blood lipids which may explain why they have less risk of heart disease.

Excessive drinking is WORSE than no drinking but if you want the maximum health benefits, moderate drinking is the best unless contraindicated.

oh .... definitely spot on with your terminology

no idea where you're going with this. There are idiots using any device/food/drug/etc. in an idiotic way.

I suppose it's different for everyone, I've always been good at coping with stress and yet I don't drink. I've never been much of a drinker.

I suppose it's all about how you enjoy your life and know when to avoid stress. Maybe there's something in what I drink and eat that makes my life so easy to cope with and enjoy.

You are one of those that no doubt has other ways to defuse stress. Having a night out and a few drinks with friends is but one way. There are many strategies that would serve the same purpose, depending on the individual.

I would say that some of it is wisdom learned from living life, and some of it is innate personality traits.

well .... um .... duh

Marijuana is considered a drug even though it can be used to make paper and rope and clothes ....

Again, you really need to get your facts straight. Marijuana, or hemp, uses a different part of the plant, as well as a different gender of plant, to make paper and rope and clothing. The part of the plant that is restricted as a drug is only the buds coming from the female plant. Really, Steinhauer...if you wish to present yourself as so well informed, please take the time to inform yourself.

so you are admitting that you are incorrect in your statement that the paper, rope, and clothes are not actually made of "smokable" marijuana.

kinda like..... poppy seed in my bagel is not actually opium even though opium is from poppy seed.

The patient in a psych ward pumped full of thorazine (sp?) was accurate in the 1940's. Now, schizophrenic treatment is much more effective and many schizophrenics are able to live on their own with the guidance of a social worker. People who are under psychiatrist are not dangerous. It's the personality disordered who scare me, and they often live among us undetected.

I dunno about you since I don't know what kind of law you practice but i'm sure that defenders of alleged criminals have tales to tell others.

I think I've known two people with personality disorders. I'm quite certain one guy I used to know years ago had BPD and another one close to me has OCPD - not to be confused with ocd!

The guy with BPD once held his mother and sister at knife point for 2 hours and he tended to alternate between extreme idealization of people close to him to extreme hatred of them. It's more common in girls though.

I remember when he got into a fight in my class and got suspended for it. Needless to say, our friendship didn't last.

It's a drug since the chemical properties in Salvia is ingested for the sole purpose to experience an altered state. In Illinois, it's illegal (since 2008) to have this drug, yes, the state classified it as a "Schedule 1" drug.

Note that in Wisconsin around March 2010, the Senate passed a bill that prohibits the manufacture and distribution of Salvia divinorum. Violators could face up to $10,000 in fines. More and more states are seeing this as a hallucigenic drug, even on par as heroin. It's a good thing that a bill was sponsored and passed in Wisconsin. People are becoming aware of this drug.

Oh good god! It's NOWHERE as dangerous as heroin. Salvia lasts for only few minutes and it's non-addictive. There's no evidence of toxicity. There is NO evidence of widespread abuse.

Heroin is entirely different, it's addictive, it has narrow safety margin, and has caused serious health problems.
