Salvia drug....illegal in many states.

Didn't want to derail a thread.

What is Salvia?
Salvia divinorum - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Some people seem to approve the use of the hallucinogenic drug but it is increasingly becoming illegal in many states, and in the military, too, with the exception of the Army as far as I can tell.
Erowid Salvia Divinorum Vault : Legal Status

How to deal with hallucinogenic drugs? Just say, "No, thanks."

Uhhh...its not classified as a drug. That is why it is not illegal under drug laws. It is classified as an herbal.

Oh, yeah! The "just say no" campaign was hugely successful!

Reality is interesting enough for me ...... people who want to escape it are usually psychiatrists and psychologists.

You need to seriously check your facts. Your bigoted exclamations ruin more of your credibility on a daily basis.

what sort of drugs do they prescribe? ;)

Oh .... and what uncontrolled substance did Freud think was a cure all?

Uhhh...psychologists don't prescribe.

Freud was not a psychologist, nor was he a psychiatrist. Again, you might want to get your facts straight.

Likewise, with time and evidence, many of Frued's theories have been corrected. Just as we now know that cocaine, once included in dietary substances, is a dangerous drug.

When casting dispersions, you would be much better off to do so with some credibility and actual fact on your side.

Wirelessly posted

More like someone trying to play amauter historian without keeping the "hindsight bias" fallacy in check.

really?

Are you saying psychiatrists and psychologists have nothing, at all, whatsoever, to do with drugs ... period?

That kind of sounds .... childish ... to me (and very ill informed).

Are you referring to illicit drugs, or approved psychotropic medications?

Psychotropic medications allow many individuals to function on a daily basis that would not be able to function at all without the medication to correct chemical imbalances and neurological deficits that are largely the result of a biologically based illness.

I find those who realize the benefit of psychotropic medications and take them as prescribed to manage their mental disorder far less disturbing than those who so obviously could use a dose or two, but think they are logical and reasonable.:cool2:

I think there are a few bipolars on this site who could attest to the helpful effects of the meds in managing their illness. I'll let them speak for themselves if they chose to.

Why drink alcoholic drinks, it's certainly not always about the "taste" but the alcohol drug in it is why people want to get a buzz off of or get seriously drunk or smashed all the time.

Moderate drinking provides the best benefit for your health. Moderate drinkers live longer, have less diseases, and do better than those who don't drink or drink heavy.

If you don't drink or drink heavily, you'll likely to have shorter lifespan and more health problems than those who drink moderately.

"Moderate drinkers tend to have better health and live longer than those who are either abstainers or heavy drinkers. In addition to having fewer heart attacks and strokes, moderate consumers of alcoholic beverages (beer, wine or distilled spirits or liquor) are generally less likely to suffer hypertension or high blood pressure, peripheral artery disease, Alzheimer's disease and the common cold."

"Sensible drinking also appears to be beneficial in reducing or preventing diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, bone fractures and osteoporosis, kidney stones, digestive ailments, stress and depression, poor cognition and memory, Parkinson's disease, hepatitis A, pancreatic cancer, macular degeneration (a major cause of blindness), angina pectoris, duodenal ulcer, erectile dysfunction, hearing loss, gallstones, liver disease and poor physical condition in elderly."

"Why drink to reduce the risk of heart disease? Wouldn't eating a good diet, exercising, and losing weight do the same thing?

No, it wouldn't. The moderate consumption of alcohol appears to be more effective than most other lifestyle changes that are used to lower the risk of heart and other diseases."

Yes, there are. And Bipolar is one of those spectrum disorders that has a proven biological etiology.

Good posting. Not only do substances such as red wine have actual chemical properties that are beneficial, moderate drinking or social drinking is also indicative of a healthy coping mechanism that reduces stress. Excessive stress is implicated in any number of disease processes that shorten the lifespan. Not to mention making the number of years one does live miserable years indeed.

I suppose it's different for everyone, I've always been good at coping with stress and yet I don't drink. I've never been much of a drinker.

I suppose it's all about how you enjoy your life and know when to avoid stress. Maybe there's something in what I drink and eat that makes my life so easy to cope with and enjoy.
