Risk of Bacterial Meningitis and Death in Children with Cochlear Implants

I'm not convinced the article is relevant to CIs, in the "what is coming soon" sense. They are referencing orthopedic implants with titanium. Only Med-el (I think) does an implant with a titanium casing. Also, the titanium used for orthopedic implants is intended to "osseointegrate", that is literally bind with bone. CIs, AFAIK (remember, I'm NOT a doctor, just work at an implant clinic) are not intended to do that. So the surfaces are different, which may make the antibiotic issue different.

Infections are pretty rare with CIs, especially in the hands of a good surgeon who is meticulous about infection control in the operating room.

interesting developements. I do wonder tho if they will be able to use different antibiotics in the implants since some people are allergic to some. This will be interesting to follow in years to come tho.

ANd quite frankly since I said NOTHING about lack of sound being a cause in and of itself of language delays in my post I really don't see much reason for your response to me except that you have this strange urge to always get in the last remark. Oh well to each their own.
Ah, you forgot an important "jillio-"rule:
Jillio ALLWAYS has the last word... Anything you say after that, is the start of a new discussion.

i thought it said something about other casings to. But frankly I'm not sure how good something like this would be. When they talk about antibiotic resistance I would think that by using antibiotics in an internal device they just might be creating another superbug or whatever they call it. Plus there is the fact that some people are allergic. And what if an allergy developes over time? But an intersting article anyway.

I'd consult a doctor about that if I were you.
Jag.... that was the last word on the discussion.... again, don't try to be smart and say something innocent like "Ah but I no longer have an urge. " because that is you starting a new discussion.

Basically.... you cannot answer.....

(btw... jill, this sentence is adressed to you; not the start of this post, because in no way I would like to have the last word, but I do want to explain that only this part of the post is for you indicating that you did have the last word, and even though I did not understand your humor, that is not uncommon - that people don't understand your humor - but it must be nice to have the last word, and to preven me from having the last word I will put your last words at the ens of this post to make sure you have the last word, so that you don't have to reply to me, or anyone else, here you go, your last words...)

It doesn't surprise me that you don't get my humor, cloggy.....it requires intelligence.

Cloggy its not your fault, she has no sense of humor for you to get.

Doesn't surprise me that you don't get it, either, rick. And for the same reason.

Got anything productive to add to the discussion?

Which one an MD or PhD?

ahh for emotional problems it is probably phd, since my experience with phds in the phyoclogical area have actually resulted in the same type of thing that goes on here i'll pass. Life is grand as it is I don't need the agravation. :)

?

For the lack of an urge, I'd suggest both. Could be physical, could be mental.
Ha ha ha ha... that's soo funny!! You should stop Jillio... it's getting too much... What a sense of humor... to the point, sharp, full of wits....

Ah, Jillio... I know, it's not easy.. You have your rules, the rest has different rules....
Anyway, perhaps it was "physiological " wouldn't that make sense?
I've seen spelling-mistakes before... e.g.:
Information on the PDCI (partial deafness cochlear implant) from the Journal of Pediatric Otolaryngolgoy. Please note that the candidate must posssess noraml hearing in the low frequencies, and that this is a new surgical technique that few surgeons have experience with............

That was a bit more than a spelling error, cloggy. It was impossible to tell from either context or spelling wheher you intended to type "psychological" or "physiological". You approximated both.

In addition, "noraml" is not a spelling error. It is a typo. Perhaps if you were aware of the difference between the two, you would better be able to level your criticism.

Quite obviously, you are incapble of seeing the double entendre.

Now, would you care to discuss the issue of bacterial meningitis?

Ha ha ha ha, "Entendre"... it just gets better and better.. Jillio, please now, get serious. it's too much fun. You are on a roll, but please stop...

BTW, seriously, ... instead of "?" you could have asked "did you intent to type "psychological" or "physiological ?"....

You're right... all your jokes, funny as they are, get us further and further away from the topic....
...let's get back to the topic..

Bacterial meningitis...
So,
People who become deaf due to BM have a higher risk of getting it, and are more aware of that danger,
Parents of children with CI are also more alert, because there is a higher risk,
BM is very well treatable with medicine,
BM kills people that are too late with treatment since they are not aware it is BM,
When you are deaf, when you have a CI, the chance of dying from BM is a lot smaller compared to the rest of the world....

What's the problem again...???
